you know, because it's just like what they called the leader in the anime! nothing alarming about that!

kill la kill is an extremely horny anime built around the japanese pun of fascism = fashion by studio trigger and it is batshit. if you gave it a miss because of the aforementioned horniness, give it another shot

alternatively watch Promare which is all the great parts of kill la kill minus the extremely awkward parts and crammed into 1 hour 45 minutes of gay dudes being awesome

a lot of the hype for klk was about studio trigger themselves. the best animation talent from Gainax had jumped ship and formed their own studio and were now making their first full-length anime.
the show itself had a lot of ups and downs. it did have some genuinely awesome and impressive fights and a few episodes in particular were absolutely hilarious. the opening scene made a great first impression of the kind of absurd high-concept slap-schtick. in a lot of ways it was an amazing technical and creative showcase for a new studio.
but there's the obvious elephant in the room that the skeevy aesthetic can be very off-putting and is basically impossible to ignore. you couldn't tell whether it wanted to mock fanservice anime or was just genuinely presenting itself as a fanservice anime. and I remember it kinda losing me a lot in the second half as it leaned into being more self-serious and edgy.

Which is why I recommend just watching Promare instead because it's basically a perfection of KLK's formula, with the spectacle elevated to greater heights and none of the awkwardness.

Korra had a real problem of introducing cool and interesting concepts and then wimping out on them
It probably didn’t help that Nickelodeon was actively sabotaging the show for basically the entirety of its run

half of korra's second season was animated by the Tokyo-based company Studio Pierrot :ssh:

I don’t know how people even manage to watch enough of these “ohhh look it’s just like a generic fantasy RPG” light novel adaptations to even get to the shocking and morally repugnant parts. I just roll my eyes every time I see “Revenge of the DPS” or some poo poo on a list of what’s airing this season, cannot imagine giving any of my time to this garbage

I'm really enjoying the early episodes so far, I'll probably switch over to the manga when I get to the point where the pacing becomes unbearable. I think it's somewhere after Skypeia where people generally say it gets really bad?

I'm at the part of the anime where they meet Vivi and it is good. There's some blatant filler I skipped over but the voice acting and animation do add a lot to the story and the comedy.
are they seriously still trying to make a live action version of this? the series is so inherently cartoonish, it'd be like making a live-action Loony Tunes movie. not like a space jam or roger rabbit thing where it's mixing animation with live action, I mean like bugs bunny being a dude in a fursuit. like that mike myers cat in the hat movie.

I don’t think a “the apocalypse is capitalism” reading of evangelion really holds up well tbqh. The story is entirely about the emotional lives of the characters and everything else is just a vehicle for that.

on a side note the English script for 3.0+1.0 is dogshit lmao. sounds like the lines were all machine-translated and given to the dub actors in alphabetical order with no context and then they used the first take of every reading.

it is kinda cool conceptually that after the time skip in Rebuild the technology has evolved into this insane eldritch magitech cobbled together from Eva and Angel parts as well as whatever leftover old-world machinery people had lying around but yeah I definitely prefer the physicality of the fights in the original series
