Germany is doing a big ol' "vaccination summit" today since the rollout has been quite a mess due to supply shortages.
We have capacities in place to vaccinate roughly 3 million folks per month (so 6 million doses administered/month), but we've been chugging along at 60k-100k doses per day, so now Angie is planning to spin the hammer around a bit.

I'm not entirely sure how this is supposed to increase the output of vaccine doses, so all I see coming out of this is cause analysis and a very stern waving of the finger...? :confuoot:

America's in a very similar position where we generally *think* the bottleneck is currently vaccine production, but the Trump administration never put in any kind of infrastructure to track doses once they actually arrived at the local areas. The Biden folks don't know if anywhere up to 20M doses are sitting on a shelf or in arms somewhere, as the trump people specifically set up things to take zero risk and all credit, regardless if the local states/counties knew what they were doing or not.

So I have one parent in one county that I got scheduled (online appointments opened at a set time and I slogged through a laggy server to do it) and another parent in another county that only has a mystery "hold your place" signup system.

All while everyone's like GET YOUR SHOT ASAP, IT'S SAFE because the overall government has to tamp down the antivaxxer poo poo.

The Senate GOP proposal is such a wet fart that it's an insult to sulphur and/or moisture.

https://twitter.com/frankthorp/status/1356243961405444100?s=19

It's a third of what Biden wants, with no state/local aid, lower checks, cut-but-extended unemployment, and is probably so lovely that Manchin/Sinema yell about how lovely it is. It's got more bad faith than evangelism.

So that's an actual positive!

how you guys have gone nearly a year now on what, 2000 bucks is beyond my comprehension.

The American way is to put more generous benefits (like Bernie's $2800/month) behind a means-tested and local government-broken unemployment system that makes you jump through hoops, on fire, singing the national anthem to get anything. Then, when the government gives you enough for 3-4 months at most and stops, your television news-induced brain worms make you demand everything get opened up. Similar situations for big businesses (yay, money we didn't need) and small businesses (restaurants and etc).

At some point, when it's time to hit the give-everyone-money-button, nobody knows where the button is, but they find the button at the IRS. But oops, the button is actually broken and designed to take people's money, and also doesn't identify "everyone". Then the everyone becomes everyone* with another means-test to exclude brand-new employed because we have no data on them, so hopefully they can get through the unemployment system! And oops, everyone* gets a Trump letter about how awesome everything is! Keep America Great!

Then we charge the Capitol because people decided that the above was just fine. :toot:

My understanding is that this stuff has to pass (with 50), then you can do the reconciliation thing. We still don't know what would be cut or watered-down from the bill, but Democrats have a united front that they're not dealing with dumb Republican delays.
