Baseball players in general just don't seem that popular outside of the sport. In the past 30 years, the list of mainstream dudes seems very small to me with Griffey, McGwire, Jeter and A-Rod. I could probably make an argument to include Sosa, Bonds, Clemens and Schilling in that list but 2 of those are almost certainly due to huge cheating scandals accompanying their generational talent and one for being a loud racist in a time when loud racists get noticed

e: I'd probably throw Ichiro on there too because he was basically awesome as gently caress from his first day in MLB coming over from Japan and having a cool name

I agree with the thrust of your post in defense of Trout's decision, but lets not get carried away here. Angels stadium is perfectly adequate but falls far short of "gorgeous". If he wanted that piece of the puzzle, along with a real contender, he should have held out to migrate up the 5.

I don't really have any strong feelings against the Dodgers but man the thought of Trout winning a pile of rings wearing Dodger blue is some real sad feeling poo poo

Guess it's better than him in pinstripes at least

the white sox brought up a 28 year-old rectangular shaped rookie catcher last night and he became the first player in MLB history to go 5 for 5 in his debut

I'm honestly disappointed we didn't get to see him hit a homer last night, during his first at bat the Angels broadcast showed a clip of him playing in another league and he pimps the hell out of them. The booth was having a good time with it and saying how they all enjoy when hitters bat flip and admire home runs which made me happy to hear.

Unfortunate, I thought he was pretty good when the Angels first got him. Definitely one of the better bullpen options they had then it seemed like he was just used a ton and never really recovered from a few bad outings. I hope he finds some peace though and if leaving helps with that, so be it.

Not getting Othani really hosed over the Yankees so badly because not only get they not get him, they then went out and did that awful Stanton trade.

I had a friend who is a Cards fan lamenting to me over the weekend how some big names have decided to not play for STL in recent years and one of the names he brought up was Stanton not waiving his trade clause to go there

I thought that was really funny

But you would at the very least have to assign half the blame to the pitcher and Molina. Castellanos was walking back to the dugout when they both ran up behind him and grabbed him.

Yeah for sure, I don't disagree. But if Castellanos didn't flex all over them then it would have never happened is likely the dumb way MLB is looking at it

I think the biggest thing going against Judge is that the Yankees have that other guy who is very similar to Judge and they're already going to be paying through the teeth for him. The Stanton deal has gotta be a huge red flag for giving Judge a big contract

It is true that I guess they Yankees have a budget so as you say paying 80 million a year for 2 dhs is probably not wise

I mean it's all relative otherwise we wouldn't have any discussion whatsoever on contracts since all owners are actual billionaires.
