Probably rtv of some flavor. Get a little seal puller and you can probably put the new one in with the correct sized "big rear end socket."

If you reattach I wouldn't use stronger hardware, it'll probably just damage the bumper when it comes off the next time. Let the zip ties or plastic hardware be sacrificial. See what the drifting community does.

I'd say I'm on the very sane side of AI so take this with a grain of salt. I already thought it was crazy you're doing a quasi brake-LSD setup on a old loving minivan. Now to spend hundreds of bucks on some fancy brackets out of billet or carbon fiber when the rest of the van is...not is another level. All that said, it's cool to watch unfold despite it breaking my sensibilities. Much as it would look cool, holy gently caress the waste of money and just get it up and running with some backyard fabbing, IMO.

Would probably be fine since they're only going to vibrate and move together. Less worried about chafing but the more larger mass fatiguing a bend elsewhere on the line. I'd still probably separate them too.

Sounds like suspension related. Control arm bushing, sway bar links, or ball joint.

On older stuff that's not modular (replace the bearing alone and have to press it out, etc.) it's obviously a bigger pain vs. the newer modular hub/bearing combos that just bolt in. But yeah, definitely do it sooner than later especially where that van takes you (remote areas) regularly.

ryanrs posted:Professional engineers have formulas and tables to calculate how many bolts they need, and the spacing. But I don't know that stuff so I just used a lot of bolts. I learned that junk way back and all I remember is that it's usually fewer bolts needed than you think...But better to be on the safe side if you're not mathing it. Those ones are pretty large too so they should provide a ton of clamp load and stiffness. Suburban Dad fucked around with this message at 13:45 on Oct 5, 2022 |
