Combination of occasionally being slow to incorporate changes, and a bit of a history of inaccurate points values and available options iirc.

(Edit: autocorrect went from 'slow' to 'able' for some reason)

Yeah, I think the biggest thing is that all of your options for building a list are *almost* ideal, but not quite.

Battlescribe has the aforementioned issues.

Azyr occasionally misses options, has a sub fee to actually build lists, and was really slow to update when the GW team was prioritizing the 40k app.

Warscroll Builder only sometimes let's you see what's on the warscroll when you're building, and can be slightly cumbersome (imo) to use. The number of times I've accidentally refreshed the page and lost what I was working on is a bit annoying.

It's all down to personal preference, really.

If I'm understanding Warscroll Builder right the Stormcast side also isn't legal because you only have two units of 5 Vindictors and 3 Battleline is mandatory?

Only at 2k points - you only need two battleline at 1k

If I wanted to get into AoS, out of the Seraphons, Overlords or Ogors, which would be the easiest/cheapest to build a starting army for? And which of the three is the most forgiving for making misplays?

If you lean in on the Beastclaw side of Ogres, they're definitely one of the cheapest and easiest armies to build. You can make a perfectly viable army with two start collecting boxes and a couple of extra Frostlords.

Idk they've had success with the concept in the past. Skaven in whfb 8th edition were downright broken and Orks have been good in 40k for two editions in a row.

There was a point in time a couple years ago where Skaven had this role again and were really good (not broken, but still); unfortunately, they've been nerfed *hard* since then, and have one of the worst win rates now

The Battleforce boxes have become a bit of a trap, imo. I've bought two so far - the Skaven one from two years ago, and the Tzeentch Arcanite one the year before. Both times, the armies have been nerfed into the ground afterwards and are in really rough shape now.

1. You are responding to a guy who says Tzeentch was nerfed to the ground, so I would take that statement with a grain of salt

I didn't say Tzeentch, I said Tzeentch *Arcanites*, which is specifically the Tzaangor side, not the demons. There is a *big* difference.

Stormfiends are technically AoS in my mind, since they didn't come out until End Times.

So Skryre have gotten some good new stuff, but that's about it. I would love for a new book this year, but I worry that it would just be a "here's new models for you to buy, and we're done!"

Doesn't need to be a normal move anymore - they do damage on all moves now.

Is the start collecting seraphon box useless now because of the riders being squatted?

You can probably just use them as the new units if you want. That Start Collecting is also still one of the most absurd values if you follow the 'getting the most out of it' guides.

Can you still take Flaming Weapon with a Tome'd hero? Seems like you could read that as a no. The new wording feels a bit ambiguous

Our AoS scene in this part of hell (deep south) is weird in that in the oldest at 43, only two more 30+, and then a bunch of early-mid 20s. Most of the other senior citizen gamers have moved over to SAGA or classic battletech.

Yeah, this is pretty good for shaven Skaven. My normal list went down about 50 points or so, Thanquol is possibly getting put back on the shelf, but Stormfiends are gonna be even more annoying now that they don't have to be in 2 ranks to get in melee. Would have liked to see the coherency threshold at 11+ instead of 6+ but I'm still fine with it.

I'm still sticking with the heavy infantry and cavalry in S2D, plus cultists for seasoning, until I get my feet under me. Is there big-brain play with the marauders that I'm missing out on?

Nah, marauders got pretty heavily nerfed from how they used to be. Had almost twice as many attacks, rend and +hit with more models, and were base 20 in a unit for few points for each model. Oh, and really good movement shenanigans (lowest die on a charge turned into a 6). AND -1 to enemy bravery in melee. Sheesh, what a terrible change.

This is exactly the way it works today in 3rd. Players take turns executing "start of combat phase" abilities, then take turns fighting.

Literally nothing changed except they made it clearer and less ambiguous. Which is good, actually.

e: only significant change I'm seeing is 1/2 inch coherency, which makes screening harder, but otherwise doesn't really change combat because everyone has 3" reach now

ee: and no shooting in combat is big

My read of that image is that the active player does *all* of their abilities first, then the other player, then alternating fights
