hey did you guys see that movie a dark song? someone recommended it in gbs and it was p good.

its a really good depiction of the abramelin ritual. normally movies don't care about that sort of detail, especially something as obscure as old magic rituals. makes me wish someone would make a decent Aleister Crowley movie

I recognized the name, Zeal and Ardor used it in music, along with recordings of Crowley.
I have a copy of the chemical wedding around here somewhere, it was pretty bad, but not off point. I don't know if he was really a British spy using the image of a pretentious little trust fund kid as a cover, but that persona really sticks in my mind. He was someone who didn't terribly value life over whatever the hell it was he was after. Some kind of power that money doesn't buy outright I'd imagine. Every time I picture him now, I do it through the lens of the Venture Brothers "Let's see if the chubby wizard can fly".

Moving on, from the wiki:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Abramelin

quote:

Although Crowley would go on to create his own ritual for attaining this, while also saying that an adept could more or less achieve this mystical state in any number of ways, the fundamental concepts remained consistent with Abramelin.

I was impressed by a dark song because of the mood it created. I felt like it was similar to things that I've experienced years after my own initiation. Every last bit of the way the abramelin ritual was portrayed outside of drawing complicated mandalas on the floor and drinking blood, the consequences of breaking the linear progression of it (the "sex magic", her little walk outside of the house) seemed like an attempt at recreating some of the most horrific moments of my life, which is hilarious upon reflection.
Good thing I can laugh about it all now.
Everything truly terrifying occurs personally, very little is transmissible by dialogue. The power I was always after was power over myself, I feel like that was what began my conversation with this supposed guardian angel. All of that work to purify in the movie was well worth it if you see it as a way of purifying only intention, by the end, her actual meeting with this creature was obviously an epiphany that created what looked like a very costly transformation.

Something that seems to be a theme in the occult is people ignoring their better judgment in pursuit of what they find is absolutely valueless in the end.
Mr. Solomon was arguably worse than his dishonest pupil in that he knew better, but was blinded by the opportunity presented him by her desire.
Clearly he paid a high price.

There are occultists who aren't completely destroyed by their experiences, I'd love to know if there was ever a time that Manly Hall experienced a Sam Rami-esque "drag me to hell" moment, but I doubt it. That was a guy with pure intention I'd like to think.

I've seen this guy around elsewhere seeming less serious. I skipped through the video cause I cant stand that whole "energetic alignment" thing, it was ruined by some hippie I used to date that had done too much molly.
What I did notice was the interlude in the middle when he puts up the hypnotic spiral. When I went to see Tool's Fear Inoculum tour at the end of 2019, they had an intermission that gave Danny Carrey a chance to do his three armed solo drummer act, with a large hypnotic spiral on the screen. The only lyrics were "sleep, sleep, sleep".

I'm basically looking at it like:

Religion is public, magic is private
Religion is more trying to get a grip on your relationship with the supernatural, magic is an attempt to control it
Religion has more long term goals, magic is getting this specific result now

Magic is kind of spiritually cheating and getting one over on everybody else and this is why wise women or priestesses are respected but witches are despised.

So yes the secret is doing magic.

Hey can I put this on a shirt or something? Thank you.

I’m bilaterally symmetrical thank you, is ambidextrous-ist also a thing?

I’m still hard on the path of magic by virtue of itself being something you don’t understand, and science being by virtue of itself, permanently incomplete.

I watched this short video of Neil the physics guy taking about “higher planes of existence” last night as I was falling asleep.

“If I existed on a two dimensional plane, and you passed a sphere through it, I’d see a point become a circle that expands then contracts back into a point before disappearing”

I think the great occult question is, who’s looking for spheres, and who’s saying shut up it’s just a loving circle.

HELL SERPENT
Lipstick Apathy

this is why it's important even for socialists to have a strong grasp of magick and the occult: any kind of protracted conflict with capitalists would have them attempt to use such methods against us, so it behooves to understand these disciplines in order for us to adequately protect ourselves, if not fight back altogether
