I like the sidebar. "The Conservatives have delivered improvements in quality of life and employment, but we can't do the green new deal stuff because people are barely making ends meet and can't afford their gas bills, anyway we need to focus on people's priorities rather than what we think they want, so more controls on immigration."

His voters told him that it's immigration and lack of law and order that's why they can't afford the gas bill. It can't be lack of money because the Conservatives created high wage jobs for everyone.

Ornedan posted:Cryptocoins seem good to libertarian weirdos who are opposed to ever trusting another human on principle, and hate "fiat" currencies. Bitcoin was meant to be a virtual gold standard where the generation of new coins slows and eventually stops, so that there will only ever be at most a fixed amount of currency in circulation. And there would be no bank whose ledger you'd have to trust, but rather a shared ledger's integrity would be enforced by everyone getting into an arms race for more computational power so they could allocate the dribble of new coins to themselves. Of course that requires a) useful information and b) friends so it was never going to work out for the kinds of misanthropes that just want to be king poo poo of their own poo poo mountain without bringing anything to the table, but it laid the groundwork for everything from free forums software to torrent sites, and the big change that cryptocurrency brought was to introduce the idea of scarcity and property to something that was otherwise ideologically post-scarcity and post-property. So now it was "if you own this digital property no government or warlord or corporation could take it away" and all those types loved it. What all the layers of scams have proved is lol, that's not true at all is it, lmao. Also OwlFancier just stick the spoon in and level it with a knife if you must. It's butter.

Butter is probably the first food where the Vegan alternative has outdone the original. Olive spreads are better than either butter or margarine now. One of the first at least. There's probably some old food where the base was made of pork rinds or something and everyone now just pretends that it wasn't. Maybe that's why you can't get Start now. feedmegin posted:American recipe? You buy butter there and it comes in a rectangular cardboard box, and inside are four individually wrapped sticks, and on the stick is marked each tablespoon, 8 to a stick. Beyond the pale is where Irish are, inside the pale is where Jews are. Nobody in history has ever built pales for reasons other than putting one group of people inside or outside them though, so whichever pale you're thinking of will have connotations.fuctifino posted:Decriminalisation is a bullshit approach that solves none of the major issues. Cannabis will still be illegal, the police will still be stopping and searching young people for it, and gangs will still be warring with each other. However, with decriminalisation, it now opens up a new market where bullshit merchants can provide compulsory bullshit courses and make bank. It still involves pretending very hard that one side of the equation doesn't exist, but there's a lot of bullshit right up to the UN level in doing much otherwise, although it'll be interesting to see what happens in Germany with cannabis legalization.

So it's not so much that decrim magically fixed the problem, more that it gave certain local authorities the latitude to handle it properly and that worked. I don't doubt that there's some locales in Portugal where you just get arrested and stuck in front of the state sponsored 'drug bad' lecture, but knowing there's a district where the pigs can say "oh, heroin, does anyone need a nurse?" saved lives. Not as good as some kind of formal legalization but better than what was before. I can imagine some healthcare staff aren't massive fans.

It's interesting how when Bob down the pub thinks that covid is both a bioweapon and fake and 5G that makes him a conspiracy theorist, but when Blair believes that Iraq has a program of weapons of mass destruction not as a matter of fact but as a matter of faith because he needs it to be true in order to justify the thing he wants to do anyway that isn't treated likewise.
