If you want a casual rather than technological definition for the purposes of mass rather than niche communications, then any site where "are you on [x]?" is a reasonable yes/no question at a party would work. Which of course depends on which country and social scene (and what sort of party).

It does feel sometimes like Eddie Izzard is taking the piss, especially with the whole "I don't care about pronouns and JKR isn't transphobic" thing, but I don't know enough about whether that was a fair representation of what they said, only that it did understandably cause upset. Why Glinner cares so much about whether Eddie Izzard is a woman or not is a different matter.

Comrade Fakename posted:I like Folding Ideas a lot, the Flat Earth and NFT videos that have been mentioned in here are genuine masterpieces, but I think he was being somewhat unfair in this one. He really misses the context that Oliver's "War on Nuggets" was started in the context of campaigning against the terrible state of UK school lunch provisions. I'm not saying Jamie's not deserving of a great deal of criticism, but the low funding and terrible nutritional value of school food was awful and he was right to campaign against it. Thus Spake That in turn led to a lot of circular arguments about "Jamie is unfair about nuggets" "so you support intensive poultry farming?" "no but Jamie doesn't oppose that either, he just wants more of it to be thrown away" that I think the video does a good job of addressing. At least his hands were warm JeremoudCorbynejad posted:(but there's also a lot of waste heat from that so I couldn't be certain) Electricity is 20.3p per kWh (!), gas is 4p per kWh. So all being equal it would cost 5x as much to heat a cup of water on electric than gas. But a gas hob is only about 40% efficient (mostly due to heat loss around the sides) and slightly less powerful (~2.5kW as opposed to 3.3kW) allowing more heat to be lost during the longer boiling cycle. For both gas and electric kettles you'll also need to heat up a bit more water than you need to use or you'll risk knackering them, this scales inversely with how much you need, wasting say half for 1 cup, 25% for 2 cups. Rough observations: It takes about 7 minutes to heat up enough water for 2 cups of tea and a bit extra on the gas hob, so say 0.3kWh or 1.2p of gas. A cup boiler takes 30s per cup and draws 3kW so 0.05kWh or 1.015p of electricity. So actually slightly cheaper for the cup boiler, which I wasn't expecting at first. And much quicker. mediaphage posted:these are the sorts of heaters i recommend:

This is the cup boiler I got, they're over 50 quid now but I stumbled across one on summer sale at exactly the time my gas kettle started whistling lovely and taking even longer to boil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZDDndpChUY If you'd asked me at the time I'd have said it probably costs more per cup but is much faster (and better for air quality). Being cheaper to run too just makes me wish I'd got one years ago. I've never made an extremely Country Living Magazine pot noodle on it though, so it's possible that I'm using it wrong.
