Why would an ambulance be leaving the hospital?

Danger - Octopus! posted:

I know I'm not the only person to rant about this but getting a doctor's appointment at the mo feels like a cruel joke that's intended to send you private and funnel cash to tory-linked health firms.

My GP surgery website has a big splash banner on the front page saying you should use the online system for all bookings and do not show up to the surgery without an appointment under any circumstances. On the online system, it says they haven't made booking appointments available. Back on the website, if you go into the help page for online bookings it reveals that actually due to covid, they're not actually offering online appointment bookings just now and you have to phone them. And obviously if you phone them, it just rings out or goes to an automated queue that times out because so many people are struggling to get appointments and they're understaffed. I mean it's all well and good for the NHS guidance to say "make an urgent GP appointment if X" but there aren't even any non-urgent appointments, are you meant to spend money you might not have on one of the private GP services or just suffer/wait and hope it doesn't become more serious over time?

Absolutely not blaming my local gp or the NHS for this, it's the result of years of underfunding but it's like what the hell are you meant to do if it's not an A&E type emergency (and even then, you might be there waiting a very long time) but more than something you can just go to an in-store pharmacist about? It's so poo poo.

The only thing you can do in that situation is call 111. Sometimes if you tell the doctor's receptionist 'the pharmacy said I need to talk to a doctor' it'll work to get you in.

So my mum just got covid for the first time, thankfully its not bad, but all it took was one lapse in her security.
Now mum was totally paranoid about catching it, for the last two or so years she has been wearing her mask, not going into shops unless essential, never invited anyone into the house, etc.
She walked our dog at 0730 every morning, through snow, rain, and sun.
A family friend had an accident a few days ago, and they asked us to take care of their dog.
They didn't even enter the house, just gave the dog at the door, and collected it again.
But while they were at the hospital, they got it there, and gave it to mum.

So I'm the last of the family who is plague free. I am Charlton Heston in the Omega Man.

Still better than most new builds. I like all the kitchen details.

It reminds me a bit of those "whole house is one room with a mezzanine" idea they had for London but cozy rather than a horrible concrete shell. (I'd totally have kicked that yuge clock off the wall by accident a few times if I lived there though)

A pond or paddling pool in the living room is quite a novel idea, though I did see a picture of a house for sale quite recently (can't find it now) with one of those endless pools in the living room.

Judging by the shape, the pool just covers the access hatch via which replacement grand pianos are delivered when the old ones get wet.

According to that source, Johnson made two main points.

This was 6 weeks into the war. Which of those two do you disagree with? That Putin isn't a war criminal for launching a unwarranted war of aggression, like Tony Blair?

Or that the western world shouldn't be sanctioning Russia for launching such a war of aggression, regardless of Ukrainian capitation or not? That we should be freely buying Russian Oil and Russian gas now?

Of course Vladimir Putin is a war criminal. He has been a war criminal since 1999 & the invasion of Chechnya when as PM he scrapped the '97 peace treaty, & again with Georgia. But as a oval office from a country that isn't seeing its cities destroyed & civilians slaughtered & territory annexed it's quite audacious to recommend not entering a dialogue with him for being a war criminal. Didn't stop the west having plenty of discussions with Putin over the previous decades.

It's not a zero sum game, Putin can be bad, awful in fact, & yet the war continuing is worse.

As for the second point, yes, in a nutshell. The embargo of Russia has failed because predictably other countries that aren't American lackies don't give a poo poo so they are buying & now we are slowly creeping towards winter where nobody is going to be able to afford. Without even considering the rises in the cost of food & fertilisers & the effect that will have globally. Call me selfish, call me a coward, I guess I am but is it wrong to ask if the price is worth it?

Yes, the best scenario is Putin being overthrown & being replaced by a democratic, socialist, internationalist government. But it's a pretty unlikely result. The best actually achievable scenario seems to me like status quo ante bellum, to which I find myself asking "is that death & destruction worth it?"

Status quo ante bellum is what I want, frankly. Putin is a strongman dictator; in his position a draw is as bad as a defeat but it's chiefly a humiliation to him without harm being done to Russia. And he's almost 70, he doesn't have the time to come back from it. He might be toppled by a pack of cunts not unlike himself, but their imperial ambitions will be curbed as the West opens its doors again. As with World War I though, it'll be how we negotiate the peace that matters.
