So the main issues is "career" for the Rogue Trader excludes the abilities from the other ones, it's like making the PC a default "fighter" but just a lot of customization options for types of fighter.

If my eyes are glazing over looking at this stuff I can only imagine what's going on at Owlcat HQ right now

Yeah, while I desperately want a new RPG to play most RPGs in alpha are not worth it, an Owlcat game doubly so. Kingmaker was so buggy at launch I eventually had to give up playing it.

They've improved in that, while you physically could not finish Kingmaker at release without a hex editor, you can now at least finish the game if you're willing to tolerate constant, inexplicable bugs.

I was in the WOTR beta and, in between patches, they would break things that were previously working like "being able to talk to npcs" and "the power attack feat". What are they doing to break those things??? :iiam:

Dark eldar have some pretty wild tech so yeah, an unavoidable trap where your group is captured and you have to escape from Commorragh would make sense. Will be interesting to see how much of their depravity OwlCat will be willing to show. I don't recall either Pathfinder game having much beyond "bad guys kill civilians" levels of brutality though so I imagine it'll be quite tame.

You can watch demons rape a clone of your main character in wotr. That came out of nowhere.

Yeah, I like them pretty well too so far. A little note that I liked was that Abelard's background has him being a father (well grand-father even) and widower. A pretty small thing but I like seeing things like this in characters rather than like the stereotypical RPG bunch of young orphaned outcasts (probably more typical of player characters in tabletop games than computer games but still) and what have you.

Widowed? Looks like he's still available for loving.

I know Owlcat doesn't have the luxury of a million person studio and years of development time but going from Baldurs Gate 3 with its zero loading screens to this is brutal. I'm in warp, asked to resolve something on the ship, loading screen, resolve incident, loading screen, return to map, loading screen. I hate it.

My big issue with combat right now is they love to set fights in huge arenas that take several turns for your slow as mollasses units to transverse with sniper squads at the other ends. Hope you brought along your own counter sniper squad or at least an officer whose only job is to spam the bonus range + ignore cover ability on your ranged guys. <- BTW its this ability that makes Argenta a blender.

Another issue is the game lying and saying I have line of slight and then watching sadly as my shot slams into indestructible cover.

Also here's something fun: the electro priests you get offered to help you with the final fight in the monastery heal the heretic electro priests, making it harder to kill them and stop the countdown from the whole place blowing up. Thanks, Owlcat.

So I did Henrix's stuff at kiava gamma and I'm kind of disappointed at the morality choices during his stuff.

There was only dogmatic and iconoclast options. Iconoclast options were "stop the suffering now" and dogmatic was "let's do the evil thing because it'll totally help us fight chaos with no downside whatsoever I'm sure".

I feel at minimum there should have been a "let's do the evil thing to learn more about chaos because it can make me more powerful" option for heresy points.

In general for the morality stuff, I feel they can't decide where dogmatic means the more puritan "wipe out anything with a hint of heresy" stance or the more radical "ends justify the means" stance, the Henrix quest is a good example of this - the dogmatic options feel more like radical inquisitor actions. Also many of the heresy options are "I'm a psycho mass murderer lol" and opportunities for a "I'm gonna embrace heritical stuff to become stronger" option aren't often taken.

I feel dogmatic should be "I'll follow the imperial faith blindly even if it's to my detriment", iconoclast should be "I'll try to make the universe better even if risks ruin" and heresy should be "I'll cut chaos some slack, be it because I'm intentionally trying to help or I (foolishly) think I can stave off corruption."

For the future machine? There was definitely a heretic option, it said "let the machine do its thing to justify the sacrifice of so many people", which I remember cause I was like "that's a weird way to phrase a heretic option".

What's that, an unholy alliance of chaos undivided led by a daemon prince from each chaos faction has invaded the ship during this level 3 dangerous jump? That fight would probably waste like five minutes of my time... give the kitchen staff some lasguns and flak jackets, they got this.

I have no idea how Argenta's damage works. Her heavy bolter says it does 6-9 damage a hit (nice!). It actually does like 20-30, often more. It probably doesn't help that versatility is bugged and is increasing with every single AOE burst.

Hit my first game ending bug in act 3. Steward guy wasn’t in my party but joined in on combat anyway. When it hit his turn I couldn’t do anything and had to load an earlier save. Only had two enemies left to kill too. The seams in general are starting to show in that act, so including the story becoming pretty silly.

I also accidentally took the talent that sets xeno lore skill to zero on my xeno lore specialist. Feeling a little dumb about that, especially as I walked into the room full of xeno lore traps.

There's no excuses for the others but you can be dogmatic and recruit Jae. You're forcing her to stop the xeno business and work to receive redemption like you're conscripting her for the Last Chancers.

I could kill her in the first round except she interrupts the turns granted by heroic ability to fully heal and then give all her minions turns. It ended up being much easier to just ignore her and mulch her minions and then finish her off in one final 20000 damage argenta burst.

Arglebargle III posted:

Yeah how do I build maximum castigating cassia?

I'm bad with remembering names so sorry in advance. But all you need is her single target nuke (gaze into my eyes or something like that), the first tier aoe forced movement ability (snare or something like that), the talent that gives her bonus willpower whenever someone takes a bonus turn (stacks infinitely with itself), the talent that does damage when she forces enemies to move, and finially the tier 2 aoe forced movement ability (lure or something like that). Everything after these is just gravy, I just go down the navigator talents list and pick the ones that look good. Mostly you open up with gathering enemies up and then using her officer ability to give argenta a chance to burst them all, then you use the single target nuke to finish off anything that needs finishing off and/or give Argenta a full turn if you racked up enough momentum. This is how you start the infinite bonus willpower train so she starts easily dishing out 100+ damage nukes.

Would burst-fire arch-militants still be broken if they fixed it by not counting burst-fire as an area attack? It seems like an unintended bug that they work with concentrated fire and create two stacks of versatility each burst without having to actually use an alternate attack (because the attack is a burst and an area). Never having to perform suboptimal actions is huge, getting your scaling at double the intended speed is a huge factor in how busted burst-fire is currently, and the flamer talent is currently better for bolters than rapid fire.

They would ramp up slower but ultimately so long as you have officers feeding turns to the arch militant they're still going to scale forever. It'll just be a more even race between their scaling forever and Cass'.

in the mean time, anyone have recommendations on warham 40k books that cover stuff off the beaten track e.g., rogue traders, inquisitors etc.

The ciaphas cain novels follow an imperial commissar who gets involved with the inquisition, local politics, and the day to day of running an imperial guard regiment, if from a nonstandard perspective for the imperium. The last chancer novels follows an imperial penal legion for ultimate grimdarkness.

For now you have to pick a different dialogue option somewhere prior in the tree to continue. If you get to that part the game is bugged and the convo ends early.
