Considering the Big Four networks (yes, Fox included) are covering this, I expect this to make a bigger impact than what the average D&D poster expects, which is to say I think there will be an impact.

This first hearing met my expectations. Considering the made-for-TV aspect, I’d expect the fifth hearing (or whatever the next-to-last one is) to be the one where the committee drops what they think is their biggest bombshell. I would’ve preferred all the hearings to be in prime time, but nobody ever cares about episodes 2 & 3 in a miniseries.

Trump is an iron lung for a large swath of the Republican party's elected persons. Yes, he's keeping the Tiki torch lit, but I can't see any big movement one way or the other with regards to election results for as long as he's the face of the party. People point to the economy as the Democrats' undoing, but I'd point out how the economy was in a much better place in 2018 and the GOP couldn't keep the House. Now, if Trump is indited, all bets are off.

Sarah Matthews has been confirmed for July 12th, but unless she's got Cassidy Hutchinson-level information I could see the committee squeezing in some Cippollone tape. One thing I've got to say that I don't think has received enough love is the editing of the multimedia during the hearings. These things would be deadly to sit through if they didn't have the ability to cue up various videos and sounds.

Considering that none of the insurrectionists have yet to be charged with treason and instead with sedition and seditious conspiracy, I HIGHLY doubt the Trumpster gets charged with treason. Even if he did (and this is a high bar - only about 30 people in US history have been charged with treason), no one has ever been executed from a conviction of treason by the federal court. I know there's a first time for everything, but I think the absolute most we can hope for is two dimes and the forfeiture of holding public office again.

If anything, this process has shown how loving hard it is to indite a former U.S. President. A smoking gun isn't enough, you need video of the bullet leaving the gun and multiple witnesses just to get some people to say "yeah, maybe there WAS a crime". Not that it would be a good idea to make it easier. That was be problematic.

There's a difference between being unethical (but legal) and breaking the law. Trump did both, but you can't arrest him for being a terrible human being. If he had accepted the 2020 election results and the January 6 attack didn't happen, he'd almost certainly spend the rest of his life a free man.

The January 6th hearings have made one thing clear: a large swath of Republicans want to memory-hole Trump like they did George W. Bush post-2008. The difference here is that there is a perhaps equal swath of Republicans who believe whenever Trump's not on screen, other characters should ask "Where's This is why I'm not a doomer with regards to the mid-terms - the Republican Party by-and-large can't decide how much of Trump the person they want. It's why Kevin McCarthy wants fellow Republicans to stop talking about him and focus on inflation for the election. Remember during the Cassidy Hutchinson testimony the Congressional Republicans Tweeted that gas was $5/gallon?* They don't want to deal with the fact the guy did crimes. HOWEVER, Trump is not like Bush post-presidency, because he can't fade into the ether. That's just not his style. The Democrats are in the odd position of having red (blue?) meat for an election cycle, and the more the committee shows happened on January 6th the harder it is for the American public to deny, deflect, or double-down. Hell, the Washington Examiner, one of the most Trumpy tabloids there is, had an op-ed that said "yeah, Trump's guilty". The literal Identity Crisis won't lead them to ruin, but it can dampen overall intraparty feelings. The election's in November. Who the gently caress knows what's going to happen between now and then?

Here's the thing about polls - they are a snapshot of the electorate at a given moment in time. Until election day, peoples' minds can change and nobody wins or loses. Saying that a poll is or was more correct at a different period of a cycle is disingenuous unless you have proof there has been deliberate miscalculations.
