Ah, of course.

The funniest assertion from the whole thing was her claim that George Bush's brother was the maintenance guy for the two towers and that's how he closed them for 12 hours to move explosives in without anyone catching that.

I've never heard that one before even in tinfoil world.

It's sometimes possible to accuse Israel or Saudi Arabia of things, even nonsense things, without necessarily being antisemitic or islamophobic, but I'm not sure how you can get so far into "janitor Jeb Bush planted bombs throughout both towers over a 12 hour period" without knowing that "Israel did 9/11" always comes alongside with "and they told all the Jews to stay home on the morning of the attack" and "and it was done to erase Rothschild ZOG banking records" and all the other stuff that you shouldn't have to ask about whether it is antisemitic or not.

And even if she did somehow manage to miss all that she's still a pudding brained truther idiot who goes on about 9/11 theories even dumber than the usual crop to people in public, which is a bad thing in itself

Imagine thinking "I've got to watch Loose Change" in 2019 lol

Something to do with wanting to draw the US into increasing their presence in the Middle East iirc, but it's so tied up with the 'no Jews went to work'/'dancing Mossad agents'/''secret ZOG banks' idiocy in the 9/11 instance that yes it's also mostly antisemitism.

Today I learned where the word originates from, never knew that. I don't... think it was used like that when I was a kid, I vaguely remember it being slightly interchangeable with "townies" and pretty associated with the rougher bits of grangetown and boro. Sort of like a weird kind of intra-class classism, cos nobody was posh but the kids from the proper rough bits of the town were still looked down on. Though being fair there were some places you wouldn't want to go cos you'd just be non-stop hassled by kids in tracksuits.
A ton of Roma (and Yiddish (and others depending on region)) words have seeped into the English lexicon, even by people with bad opinions of Roma and Jews, typically without anyone being conscious of them. I've always heard it as "no this is for the bad white English kids (I have my own terrible words for all the others thank you)."

Basically yeah, there's still plenty of anti-traveller racism but I don't know anybody who would use that word for it.
My hot and completely unscientific anthropological theory is that there's always a certain congregation of older (usually) men (almost always) around the pub, and probably around the tavern and campfire before then, where the conversation is usually on the theme of 'these days' or 'outgroups'. Kids these days, no respect, entertainments all rubbish, now here's my ranking of all the ethnics.

There's almost certainly a bonding factor in it, bad as it is.

Now if you got two different ethnic groups meeting in a public space like that, not even the pub fash would blunder straight in with "what words don't you like being called so we can call you them later?", so conversation usually settles on something they all can agree on. So you tend to get a bunch of loanwords that are derogatory not to either group but to a third group that is outsiders to both, like the kids are all lazy and scruffy and lack discipline (chav from Romani) and the girls are even worse and immodest (bint from Arabic) and the telly's all shite too (dreck from Yiddish) and dozens of others that are not against the people from which the word came but a shared target of disdain.

As an adjective 'spastic' still has medical use as relating to spasm or uncoordinated muscle movement, like in spastic colon.

It was never used as a noun for a person medically though, so that was always sus behaviour, on a spectrum from "haha this person is uncoordinated" to "I am a oval office and hate people with disability", kids just made it much worse by amplification and not knowing better.

As a result of that, it's now automatically suspicious even as an adjective outside of a medical context, like 'niggardly' is. Yes it's not the same at all as the bad word, but if you can spare 5 seconds thinking of a better replacement then you should.

Obviously function and safety has to come before aesthetics in that use case, but they did some actual architecture with Battersea, and the construction methods are so much cheaper now that you could make a nuclear Taj Mahal or something.

They do it with the oil wells in California, and people will go out of their way to say "hey did you know there's an oil well in there, how cool is that?" even though living next to an oil well isn't great for VOC, but a little style goes a long way.

About the closest new thing to that we have here is Shoreham Power Station, where the chimney is far taller than it needs to be to act as a coastal landmark (and even then the owners piss and moan about the increased maintenance cost of tall pipe).

I saw plenty of people praise Lynch's uncompromising interview style, and lots of back and forth on Dempsey's speech about how if communities feel they've been ignored they'll follow the first charismatic bigot to pay attention to them (is the speech racist, or is it just describing an unfortunate fact about how racists play people?) but not that they should be running the country.

Even if so I don't think either has said anything exceptionally bad by the standards of the people who are currently running the country, but yeah giving two people we don't know much about the reigns of power based on a couple of strong speeches probably isn't the best idea, going by history.
