I'm still impressed how many replies are people just refusing to believe it, or telling them to just raise their prices or fire some staff.

We are quite the boot licking nation.

A lot of people just simply don’t believe it, which is fair because:

A - it just doesn’t make sense, with what they know of the world
B - everything has been focused on the price cap which doesn’t matter if you’re a business

As you can imagine, my brewery uses a lot of electricity and the next X months until the government does something - and it’ll surely have to, even with Truss - are going to be spicy as gently caress.

You need to get a wristband to stand in the queue. Yesterday when I came past they were preventing people from joining the actual end of the queue and making them do a short length of extra queue route that didn't have anyone in it first. And yes, an army of stewards and cops.

The other day you only got the wristbands when you got past Southwark Bridge - no-one before that had them. I don't know if that's changed.

I'm not completely supportive of this one now - there's another video which shows right before where he dodges past a few police and through a barrier, and it is about 10 seconds before the convey passes through, so I do get why they did what they did.

I'd expect it'll be a case of tourists take their receipts to a desk at the airport and receive the refund there. Having to carry it out at the till is a terrible idea. so they'll absolutely do that.

They’ve already been able to take receipts to a desk at the airport and get tax back.

Maybe it got scrapped at some point in the decade or so I’ve been out of retail but we (the retailer) used to have to fill out these long-rear end forms with all the persons passport and travel details, manually look up how much of a refund they were entitled to on a separate and very easy to lose table of figures, then send them on their way to go get their money back with it when they eventually left the country.

It was, they scrapped it Jan first last year.

The Great Stork Derby is back, in benefits form!

A quick summary from the wiki:

The race was the product of a scheme by Charles Vance Millar (1853–1926), a Toronto lawyer, financier, and practical joker, who bequeathed the residue of his significant estate to the woman in Toronto who could produce the most children in the decade following his death.

It is one of many unusual bequests in his will, along with giving a vacation home in Jamaica to a group of three men who detested each other under the condition that they live in the estate together indefinitely, brewery stocks to a group of prominent teetotal Protestant ministers if they participated in its operations and collected its dividends, and jockey club stocks to a group of anti-horse-racing advocates.

Essentially, man was a colossal dickhead, but while a lot of his will conditions were pretty hilarious, this one caused a lot of harm for the people involved.

Cases of people desperately trying to count stillbirths towards to the tally, people giving birth just outside the area and therefore that child not counting, all added to the fact that these were people who were too poor to feed even a couple of kids, so had another 8 or so just to get the money to feed the first ones. Horrific.

Keith Starmer, known Corbyn fan.

But that is frustrating, not only did Starmer support Corbyn's rival in the leadership, he once resigned in protest at his leadership, and then had him suspended from the party (and refused to overturn it).

There's just no support at all, but a statement like that is just broadcast unchecked.
