Browsing through Serebii’s dex and man, it sure is cool that they made an electric/fighting Pokémon…and it’s options are Thunder Punch, Wild Charge and the new exclusive signature Electric-type Burn Out. Is especially weird because also just browsing they added stuff like Ground Close Combat and Water Double Edge.

I don't know why this game couldn't come out next year.

Pokémon is the biggest franchise on the planet and a relatively small amount of that revenue comes from the games, so the dev cycle is kinda beholden to fueling the Pokémon cash cow with new Pokémon every few years without much in the way of leeway. Or at least, that’s how I understand it!

On the other hand, it’s pretty loving bizarre that Gamefreak didn’t just ask for help from say, Monolith Soft since Xenoblade 3 was finished a while before it was officially announced according to leaks.

It doesn’t feel like theyre saying that dragon-types are less ubiquitous, more that Dragons as a big “holy poo poo” thing don’t exist narratively anymore. But really they’ve always been underwhelming since, like, how many ducking dragon specialists didn’t just load up on the regional pseudo-legendary’s preevolved form and/or just run a team of half “vaguely dragoney guys” like Lance/Raihan?

Speaking of move remembering, does that extend to TMs too? Like, I use the Thunder Wave TM on Ralts, erase it for some other move because I have an electric type, then change up my team and want it back, does that count as permanently something it can recall? Or I guess same thing for egg moves, it kinda looks like Pawmi can learn Mach Punch from breloom, since as far as I understand the modern egg move system it just has to be something that’s not in their level up moveset that something at picnic time has in their slots, right?

Honestly that would be kinda neat, along with just including regional variants of stuff like G-Meowth and A-Grimer as rarer spawns, especially since it’s canon that Alola Grimer is the dominant strain of the species.

Also still earlygame but I jumped to the other side of this river I saw on the way to bug gym and now I’m overleveled even after cycling out like half my team for new guys? Oh well, it’s more palatable if it’s because the game shoved a bunch of greatest hits guys like Goomy and Rilou in my face. This still makes like no sense because I can run from trainers who turn out to be like 15+ levels higher than the wildlife and have it treated as a wipe where I go back to the Pokecenter, and they already have to account for the contingency that you’ll wipe to titans anyway.

Also since picnics are how “egg” moves get passed on now, do I just have whatever guy has a comparable move/egg group in the team with the target?

It’s a bad mechanic, someone gave me the helpful advice of walking up and down the academy steps like five times and popping a EXP candy (I did an extra few to be safe) but you have to make sure to do it all in one go and also if they get recalled because they walked too slow that resets the count. It’s a good thing Pawmot’s such a cutie tbh.

Persian is eternally cursed to be balanced around Gen 1 where 70 base attack still wasn’t great but it was more in line with the status quo and it’s stupid high speed translated to more damage since your ratio was based on your base speed. Also I skipped out on Sw/Sh and PLA but I kinda get the impression that S/V hews pretty close to the latter since I’ve spent most of the game catching Pokémon and also cycling the overleveled ones to level/evolve even more. Terastilzation kinda made the elite four/champion underwhelming, sorta wish trainers wouldn’t just mash that button when it makes stuff weaker, like fairy/steel is so cracked as a defensive typing that terrastalizing to mono-steel makes things easier. Also Geeta is one of the more dubious champions like ever, your Glimmora’s supposed to be a lead, lady.

Regardless, enjoyed the “main story” (still have to do Area Zero) a lot. Just being able to haul off an explore when/wherever and constantly stumble on new guys due to the nature of having freaking 400 guys in the dex was great. Wish turning the exp share off was an option, I had a team of like twenty pokes I kept in rotation but it only does so much even if I’d probably leave it on most of the time.
