It's almost entirely useless regardless. Calculating indirect fire for artillery is serious maths, and that's with shells that are very stable and have predictable firing arcs, with very stable platforms and aiming systems designed precisely for the job. Even then you can't get pin point accuracy unless you have shells that can self-correct in flight and artillery still relies on mass of fire to get results.

Dumbfire rockets aren't terribly stable, they are much more vulnerable to interference from wind etc, they are being fired from a chopper that is being buffeted by wind and is slightly moving and isn't equipped with aiming systems for indirect fire by dumbfire rockets. The guys firing the rockets also probably aren't doing any serious calculations, so we have by nature inaccurate weapons being fired with unsuitable aiming systems by guys who at best have a vague "uhh if we aim there it'll kinda go in that direction I guess" idea of what they're doing.

At this point, I'm pretty sure they're doing it to have the pilots do something, anything. The pilots are not able to perform real missions that their planes/helis are made for due to modern AA saturation. I assume some general feels like having his pilots sit at the barracks for a year playing dice while waiting for an F16 will be demoralizing. They send them on these types of missions to keep them at least flying once in a while to keep their skills sharp. At the same time getting a good pilot takes 10+ years of training and practice, so you're not going to send them on suicide missions for no reason in case you'll need them later / get modern jets.

Also if you stop flying completely, then Russian radar will know it's never you and AA will stop shooting down their own jets as they occasionally do.

The "propagandist" that was blown up is a social media war blogger (just a popular one), not a state-sponsored propagandist on TV. He was recently criticizing the army for sucking and not being brutal enough, so he's on the far-right pro-war side of the spectrum of criticizing the army. Absolutely possible he was blown up by the Shoigu faction and not internal partisans. Partisans would probably go after state-TV propagandists if they actually had the means to blow up stuff without getting caught by FSB.

The blue and red shirts are the "Putin Youth" (so I assume the rest of the crowd is related). They're members of Putin's political party's youth wing, similar to how Hitler Youth functioned. So it's Putin's political party members doing a planned gathering with coordinated signs, not a bunch of random Gen Zs from Moscow deciding to do a spontaneous protest of NATO.

To outdo Hitler, Putin created three youth wings of his party (that I know of). One political (this one), there is another military youth wing that's Rosgvardia adjacent that focuses on military training and reports directly to Putin as commander. Then in 2022 Putin created a third youth wing that focuses on school education (so high school-level students going to elementary schools to teach kids about Putin and make children join the political party) which is similar to the one that Stalin created.

Putin and Shoigu are best friends going back 20+ years. If they go down, they go down together.

Surovkin was the wild card going into this since he is good friends with Prigozhin and they talked positively about each other before. However, he released a video telling Wagner to stand down, which lowers the chances of this doing anything. Right now it looks like Putin, Shoigu, and Surovkin are all on the same side.

Outside of Shoigu and Surovkin, all other important military and security forces report directly to Putin.

And almost all of Russia's billionaires are virtual billionaires by virtue of Putin making them a vassal and giving them ownership of a specific company or industry. If they die, another one will simply be appointed to take their place (and become a billionaire overnight).

Even though all the big vassals owe their whole existence to Putin, the next layer of vassals in the mafia system is harder to pinpoint with loyalty. They might be more loyal to another bigger vassal who gave them their position vs Putin directly. Basically, medieval drama plays out if there are in fact multiple factions forming.

Before the war, Russian required army service for all men aged 18 was mostly forced hard/slave labor. Very few get to actually do any real army stuff for that year, and usually, only those that can pay bribes get posted somewhere easy to oversee border security or something like that. If you're poor, it's basically a one-year prison labor camp (+ rape/abuse included).

Now at 18 you're obviously much more likely to actually get a gun and be sent to the front since there's an active war. If they need to replace the lost free labor they'll need to mobilize more people than what they're normally getting through the regular draft.

Yes the tb-2s don't do well and aren't cost effective in an AA rich environment. So Russia is feeling the strain. Especially as Ukraine has just opened up their target radius to 500+ KM. (And are working on 1200KM ranged missiles)

Which means Russia is literally going to need to blanket itself with AA.

I remember when the free Russian army rolled in and the first thing the rosgvardia did was wheel the buks out of town. A little sign of how badly they need to keep the AA working.

Evidence that a bunch of pundits saying "sending small drones into Moscow is useless" was a bad take. Putin definitely wants Moscow residents to feel like nothing is happening outside the city, so he's willing to blanket everything there with Pantsirs instead of keeping them on the frontline. Internal propaganda is more important than military capability.

Biden is probably afraid of an "escalation" event happening before the next election, hurting his re-election chances. The only realistic event he can be thinking of is Ukraine blowing up the Kerch bridge and Russia going hog wild mad. If this is what he's afraid of, he might only go all in on the real warhead ATACMs after the election, so the end of 2024. That way Republicans won't be able to hammer him on it. There's a tourist place, like a 1.5-hour ride from Moscow. Not even that hard to get to, they send a limo to your hotel in Moscow to pick you up since it used to be a popular thing for tourists. Pre-war, you could rent relatively new tanks there (and shoot them if you wanted, although it was several hundred bucks per shell or so). It would be hilarious if all they had left now was a single T-55 as even the overused stripped tourist rentals they had before (T-62, T-80, and T-90) got sent to the front.

Uniform you get on site for the photo opp. You can also take photos with various guns there, so he might post those too.

It's similar to the Vegas places that do this, except with no safety precautions and no fucks given when letting drunk dudes drive a tank and fire shells and machine guns in it.

These were either run by a local mafia business that bribed some general to get the hardware, or the local army base general did this himself as a side hustle. The more east from Moscow you went, the more loose the rules got with what you can play with.
