I've read that EW is super prevalent on both sides, the Ukrainians are losing a lot of drones too, it's just that we are selecting for a preponderance of pro-Ukrainian, anti-Russian accounts. Also the impression I get is not that the drones get 'hacked' and stolen necessarily, rather that they just get jammed until they fall out of the sky or try to return to base or whatever. Especially given that the vast majority of them in use are not military grade but converted commercial grade drones

I wonder if Finland will decide to significantly increase material in its upcoming 14th aid package to Ukraine, once they fall under the umbrella of NATO's defence treaty. So far they've been keeping a lot of tanks and so forth off the table because of defence requirements, but if they can rely on NATO and the US coming to their defence in the (extremely unlikely but evidently not willing to gamble on) event of a Russian attack, that would, to me, raise questions of how much of their current equipment stock they can risk sparing in the short and mid term, no?

I had a quick google but couldn't see anything concrete

E: ah I misread, the timeframes on actual accession to NATO and the final package before the upcoming Finnish elections probably don't align that well. So it might be a problem for future aid packages (basically one a month) rather than this next one

Now find me some graphs for how much Germany has profited from adopting the Euro, how much Greece has lost, how much Germany profited from the Greek financial crisis, and how much of the Greek economy now belongs to Germany

And then compare debt relief strategies for Germany post war and Greece post crisis

Can you provide any sort of sources on this? There's a lot of Russian propaganda-level hyperbole in this thread lately and I'm scratching my head as to what you all are talking about. Did I miss something or do you really think the few square kilometres of territory that changed hands in the last few days, i.e. the tips of the failed Russian encirclement attempt on the northern and southern flanks, involved tens of thousands of Russian deaths and hundreds of pieces of destroyed Russian equipment? This is not the city of Bakhmut itself, and even then they'd have had to have retaken way past the train line for that to be anywhere close to reality

I've tried to ignore it to this point but I'm just so confused that nobody else in the thread is calling this stuff out for being make believe. Every statement I've seen or read from the Ukrainian military, either soldiers/officers on the ground or official spokespeople, has said that the general reaction to these counterattacks is completely overblown, yet it just keeps on going. What have I missed?

I'm not saying that this means Luka was poisoned or is even significantly sick, as mentioned he's an old man and stress has hugely detrimental effects on your health. But I don't get the logic that because the Belarusian army wouldn't turn the tide in Ukraine, therefore Putin wouldn't bother loving around with Belarus or offing/replacing Luka. Putin considers Belarus part of Russia so sooner or later he's going to push more on that if he can, and "that would be a very stupid thing to do" seems to be something that Putin takes as a personal challenge rather than sage geopolitical advice

While this is certainly true, a lot of things seem to point that the idea that Chinese political circles genuinely do believe not just that Ukraine has no real agency in this, that the rest of NATO and the EU also do not, and are merely part of the US's buffer zone against eastern powers like Russia and China. In that picture of the war, Germany and Poland and all are only supporting it for the sake of the US to and can be persuaded to push back against their master.

I'm about as far from being a pundit as you can get but the impression I get is that Chinese diplomats and foreign policy aren't playing 5D chess (like people kept saying about Putin for years) but that they've just been so compromised by domestic ideology and internal political exigencies (as has Russia) that they can't help but keep doing and saying pointlessly antagonistic, myopic things - due to a combination of needing to show some material gains and toe the line at home, buying (as you say) too deeply into this spheres of influence/regional vassalisation worldview, and just straight up not understanding or appreciating cultural or democratic nuances, which is apparently a common symptom of the nationalist disease

I assume there are some mechanisms in place to try to catch draft dodgers or 100% ghost soldiers, including snitch lines and checking payslips/employment records, as well as stark punishments for those caught, so it's probably more sustainable if you leave the guy enough cash to keep his head down for the duration and it keep things tidy. How big is a typical VDV company? I assume we're talking about a (Motorised?) Rifle Company, but I'm googling and getting really scant resources on actual numbers, let alone which company it might be in that area. So at a complete guess, a full company might be 80-120 soldiers, say it's 50% that because of manpower issues, so that tweet is claiming Ukraine captured 'part' of like 40-60 soldiers?

I don't have a comment one way or another and I know that particular channel just churns out every single positive rumour with zero filter or analysis, I'm just curious about what "part of a VDV company" might mean in real terms and couldn't find poo poo online

The youtube video by the Anders guy linked yesterday fits with my general take on the grain deal, and it's yet another example of how "good faith" compromises with Russian interests, backed up by the ever present threat of Russian terror bombing and of broader humanitarian crises, is something that usually hurts more than it helps, although that's a lesson that 'political decorum' seems intent on re-learning the hard way every time an opportunity comes up

I had a seat by the wing and I was extremely surprised to see that instead of the pump trucks that shoot purple stuff all over the wings to de-ice them, the ground crew at St. Petersburg used some kind of weird low powered flamethrowers to not blast the wings or anything, but just kinda ... sweep over them. A bunch of very bored looking Russian guys chain smoking in a blizzard and standing there waving these weird heat blower things around.

I have only seen the linked videos, including the 40ish critical analysis, so maybe he's not always like this, but his schtick and mannerisms and rhetoric in those segments are loving insane and one of the things I find myself hating about the new internet and the American dominated global propaganda war, from both sides of the spectrum - which is also a bullshit notion but whatever

This twitch socialist/libertarian commercialisation is not about the argument or discussion or learning or evidence, it's about having a masturbatory media presence that gets people angry and grows your "influencer" platform and obviously don't forget to like and subscribe and help pay for my third jacuzzi, because everybody has to have the One True Hot Take To Rule Them All as though social education is just another round of American Idol

Conversely I really liked the guy who did that long form video because he's so clearly holding himself back from gratuitous gotchas even though they would have been so damned easy, but when your target demographic is angry 13 year old narcissist tankies there's just no money or ego boost in doing a Perun style video so of course the view counts are just a million times lower

e: vv yeah i'm phrasing this badly because i'm tired and dealing with some brain fog, i meant to say that if i compare the hasan guy to perun or lonerbox, the latter two are doing it a million times better, but hasan is playing "the market" so obviously he's getting amplified to an absurd degree even though his content and approach and ideas are garbage. at least from the snippets at hand

It's funny, if you go back and watch his Dominions games now, it's like he was meant to do this. He goes into his first two Dom5 multiplayer games, and wins utterly dominating victories over some extremely skilled players. Throughout the whole series he's using the same language and frameworks that are now being used in his videos on Ukraine, the defense industry, national defense strategy, diplomacy, etc., and he's just savagely owning these much more experienced players with it.

For folks interested in Perun as a person, they're fascinating videos. He's very careful to never mention who he works for or what he does, but he'll discuss at length his personal philosophies around diplomacy and conflict in ways that make it clear he's not only put a lot of thought into it, but that he's deeply morally invested in these ideas. If he'd put that content out post-Ukraine I'd dismiss it as "things youtubers say to make themselves sound thoughtful," but he was doing this for an audience of a couple hundred views at a time, essentially talking into a void.

Also he hauls the insane ghosts of ancient murdered gods back from the Underworld to fight for him, and names them after Rupert Murdoch and other Australian conservatives, so, proclick.

That actually sounds pretty great, I think I remember hearing about that in one of the old dominion screenshot threads years ago but didn't know it was Perun. I remember watching Nuclearmonkee's videos and liking them too, I'll have to check it out - thanks
