Barbequing a light is one of the most satisfying things in this game. Even better when two of them stand next to each other.

The default controller mapping sucks rear end. Big changes for me were swapping pickup/reload priority and using the modifier controller mapping. It's unbelievable how much better the modifier mapping is in terms of changing gadgets. I unbound the emote button too because I'd accidentally hit it regularly as I'm a spaz.

I tried the modifier mapping in the beta but found that I kept messing up the inputs during particularly frantic fights/escapes. D-pad switching makes you take your thumb off the stick, but is more consistent (for me, at least).

I'm continually futzing with my sensitivity settings and what not, particular since they've made some adjustments to AA. I've played enough CoD that I can generally manage hitting my shots while running a high enough sensitivity to turn quickly and have good movement, but there are definitely time when I'm somehow shooting an exact outline of my opponent. Honestly might be that I'm still trying to snap right to the head, which doesn't work as well with the recoil patterns in this game vs the laser beam guns in call of duty.

Yea taking my thumb off the movement was a no go for me. I tried the wheel for a bit but I found it wasnt responsive enough. Anytime I tried to swap fast by hitting the wheel and flicking the stick, I'd either hold it too long and my character would start looking in the direction I was holding or I would go too fast and the stick popping back to center would consistently change to a different gadget before the wheel closed.

It did take a few games to really lock in the muscle memory of my gadgets and I don't swap classes at all which probably contributed to my preference as my gadgets are always in the same spot.

If you think buildings are too non descript and hard to tell apart, blow a couple of walls and let the destruction differentiate them.

VVVV I agree fully with this, I think there's room for ethical use of AI even in voice acting, but getting into that mess for... This? Of all the cool things AI announcers would allow, they do none of them.

Game needs to pivot harder into the wacky side and that includes the AI narrators saying some wild poo poo every now and then.

I dont see anyone countering my arguments about the announcers so I'll just say that they should have an option for critical game info only without the chit chat.

Your one argument was that the announcers were too loud, which I don't think they are so I'm not sure what your point is here. The UI is conveying information properly when it comes to the essentials:
> Is someone capping a cashout/vault > there is both a visual and audio cue
> Has a team been wiped ? > there is a countdown timer on that team's icon now
> Are your teammates dead or alive ? > visual elements convey their status decently enough

The biggest mistake I can think of with regards to the announcers was doing a half measure with their AI processing.

They should have either not used AI at all and have the actors just record their lines as usual, or go full AI and have the lines be generated on the fly. (costlier, and with some jank, but more interesting than what we got). The current state of things is they sound weird and robotic but without the upside of having actually dynamic lines, it's the worst of both worlds.

As someone who has ever played with randos no, UI elements are not sufficient to explain those things and in fact there should be tactile force feedback where their monitor slaps them in the face every time someone starts stealing the cashout

I mean, you won't get any argument from me on that last part, but the information is there if you need it. :v:

At release you needed to tab all the time to check what's going on with the other teams but that's not so true anymore. Still I'd like a UI element in the top left to show exactly how many members of a team are alive or dead without having to tab, that'd be convenient.

pretense is my co-pilot

the real issue with the ai announcers is that if they don't have to pay voice actors, why don't we have like 30 team names and associated chatter

or multiple sets of announcers. different announcers for different arenas? battlepass team names.

i love the new tournament ui though, its fantastic

What do you have jump bound to then? The other thing that pushed me toward the d-pad setup is that it lets me keep jump on the left bumper. Been using bumper jumper in console fps games too long to change now.

I guess I could rebind the modifier to a face button and put it on a paddle, but then I'm already using this for slide and ping.

Ah yea, I've ever never been able to adapt to using bumpers for jump/dash etc so I'm just using the stock modifier layout with L1 for modifier and X for jump. I don't find myself jumping all that often with my heavy, but I could see alternative layouts being better for other classes like Light.

lower the voice over volume and remove the reverb. I have the announcer volume on 30/100 and its still over powering other elements of the game and sometimes voice chat.

I would rather it be like COD where its fake voice comms with a 2-way radio filter on it. its way less intrusive than boomy sports echo voice.

I definitely think the AI generated voices is a trial balloon for future games to have dynamic AI voicing.

It will probably end up like AI Seinfeld did.

it's not just that, it's loving garbage to play. if you're going to do a gimmick mode like this, then make it a fun gimmick. everyone has sledgehammers! everyone has swords! this isn't fun. it feels like you're wasting time. oh you picked up coins? congratulations, someone killed you immediately. but everyone is ignoring the guy who has 20,000. loadout choices? yeah, because everyone is a heavy with a machine gun, some of them are traps. it's just bad.

It's definitely a lot more tactical. Hiding in bushes to regen health. Using your charge to escape death. Knowing when to fight vs run. Spending even less time in the open than normal because you don't have a team to support you.

The first 3-4 matches I played went terribly and I hated the mode. Then I switched up my playstyle to a more conservative and tactical one. Using height, surprise through walls, using the charge as a weapon not just a utility, and knowing when to hangout near a cashout to try and catch a juicy target. Just slowing down and spending more time observing during a match helped me a lot and had a couple really good games yesterday.

Also just camping the deposits and poaching anyone attempting to deposit is easy mode, I don't know why people bother opening vaults and running around with a huge liability like that.
