Why is AP granted a position on the main weapon statblock, rather than being a weapon ability like Melta x, Rapid Fire x, etc? Many weapons have AP0 anyway, which would be equivalent to not having this ability. Am I missing some subtlety about the implications of a statistic being on the main stat block?

As many squads as you like, it's just model capacity that matters. As an example, running 2 squads of 5 in rhinos is pretty common rather than a 10 strong

The new Dawn of Fire series ranges from readable to pretty good, and explores a lot of interesting intersections of factions that would normally have their own book. Sisters meeting Custodes, life as a menial on Terra, average joes meeting primarchs, Iron Warriors and Word Bearers being bros, Space Wolves casually slaughtering Scions that got in the way and no one can do a drat thing about it, and some interesting space marines from obscure chapters getting some attention like Storm Reapers and Marines Malevolent.

How else are we going to get people to spend money buying a book? By making art and stories of our beloved IP? Sounds like one of those indie wargames, not like us. No, the rules will exist in the printed codex except for when we need to change them due to unforeseen issues and points, which we will instead distribute somewhere else.
