tarbrush posted:Finished honour mode! Didn't do Cazador, House of Hope or Grief and blew Gale up so the ending felt a bit lovely, but I have the dice. It's amazing how much of a wrench it is letting down these collections of pixels and voices even when you've saved them properly the first two times round. I haven't finished honor mode yet, but next time I play it's going to be on tactician with no savescumming. That's really the only part of honor mode I like. The game's a lot more immersive when I'm not relying on the F8 key to get out of every small jam. I haven't used Gale, Halsin, or Wyll in three plays, so that's my team next time.

But if I ever finish I would like to do a run with the companions and classes I never use. Have hardly touched Druid and ranger at all. Not used paladin too much either. Probably with the mod that turns tactician into honor mode but without the single save.

I had what felt like a classic D&D encounter. Secret cellar that had a secret passage to what seemed like a benign cavern. Decided to open an old coffin and there was a BOOM and out popped a skeleton, taking my party by surprise. And this was not a shambling sort of skeleton, but a spry rear end in a top hat of a skeleton who began dashing around the room and bashing open other coffins and in short order my party was outnumbered by these higher level bony shitheads. Everything went downhill from there and I had to reload, but still... if I'd just left that coffin alone I expect things would've gone differently, unless after my reload I'm about to do something else that wakes them all up again.

For me it's been the opposite, the appeal in Honour Mode has been the souped up fights with cool new mechanics and the tweaks that fix damage riders. I'm not personally much enamoured with the "no reloads" thing, it feel like it's forced some incredibly cautious play from me that's been occasionally kind of tedious. I'll get my golden dice and in future see if I can get a mod to give me the honour mode difficulty changes without the single save file.

That's a good point, I've taken so long because I've been cautious about bugs causing instadeath. I had Lae'zel fall through a bridge once and needed Withers to get her back. Another time I glitched and multiple enemies were untargetable; I had to kill the process in task manager. Once I had to end the task to fix a broken mouse cursor and the game forced a save on me. A video game intercepting an "end task" from Windows to force its anti-savescumming tech is crazy to me.

I’ve taken to doing “fox, chicken and wolf need to cross the river” puzzle back and forth poo poo to avoid ever having my whole party on at once in case they decide to randomly glitch off the edge. This has already saved my rear end several times lol. Thankfully a lot of them have a waypoint on the far side so you only really need to send one dude across.

Or an enemy's idle animation makes it so your cursor misses clicking on them, leading your squishy nerd character to run towards a pack of enemies at full sprint instead of casting Hold Person. Honestly if honor mode was a hard limit of maybe three reloads it'd be just as balanced.

Any particular recommendations for an origins playthough? Tempted by Shart for doing a comedy Minty romance and general shar fuckery.

Shadowheart is a decent origin if you want to do an evil run without going Durge. You can even go something like 5 Gloomstalker / 4 Trickery Domain / 3 Assassin if you want to maintain her Sharran skillset while still bringing some main character damage. Nice thing about doing an evil origin run is that you get to bring all the baddies (SH, Lae'zel, Astarion, Minty) without having to switch them out. Her origin-specific scenes aren't as robust as Astarion's, though.

Although the cavern under the village is probably a bad place for me to be I did manage to survive the fight with the phase spiders and the weird humanoid spidery dudes. I handed out all my poison antidotes before hand but even so Shadowheart was downed by the last spider. If there's more spiders in here only my PC has poison resistance, but... I have a horn full of ogres just in case. EDIT: The fight with the giant spider took about four reloads because I didn't understand the limitations of the ogres, like climbing. I wound up sneaking my whole team down to the lowest level to start the fight and then summoning the ogres. It was still a mess but I had to laugh in the middle of it when one of the ogres who had been getting poisoned by a horde of little spiders booted one into a chasm. When the giant spider teleported among us all I had the githyanki trip her and the imp familiar frighten her and then she didn't get any more actions before everyone managed to stomp her to death. At the end I tricked the ogre boss into sticking around for another battle, but I hope I get another chance to avoid paying since it's up to 2,500 gold now. I dunno what check that could be - it didn't matter if I was on the other end of the zone fighting Shadows, or in the Jails of Moonrise Towers, Cerys is always in the combat, in the initiative orders, while all the way back in Last Light Inn. It gets to her turn, goes to a black screen as it goes to load over there for her turn, she does whatever (probably passes her turn), and it brings the camera back over to where we are for the actual battle before even finishing loading into Last Light Inn, and it has to load the terrain around me back in again because my computer is old and slow.
