Remember when everyone thought the Broncos were going to be a power house once Russ joined the team? Similarly remember when everyone thought the AFCW was going to be the dominant division because they had the "Best" QB roster with Mahomes, Herbert, Wilson, Carr? Also remember how everyone though Payton was going to turn things around? It's funny how bad some of fairly average takes at the time seem a couple years later.

solarjetman posted:I'm not sure how to feel about the prospect of Flacco traveling to Baltimore and upsetting a super bowl caliber Ravens team in the divisional round. With the Bills another probable WC team and pretty hot right now alongside the Browns only needing 1 win to clinch the 5th seed I think there is a good shot that the Browns wouldn't face Baltimore unless they make the AFCCG.

It's notable that Hester was a really good punt returner but not nearly as good as kick returner. There were better kick returners even contemporaneously, such as Josh Cribbs or Leon Washington, and shortly after like Cordarrelle Patterson, but as far as punt returns goes Hester absolutely blows away everyone else all time from what I can tell.

Flikken posted:Man I really want to agree that Cribbs belongs in the hall but he is borderline at best. His extremely high counting stats are probably a result of just how godawful the Browns were for his tenure. Lots of teams scored a lot on the Browns so he had lots of oppurtunities to return kicks. Cribbs was just a weird freakish athlete good at everything other than normal football. Like he sucked at being a receiver, running back, or quarterback, but was good to elite at running gadget/trick plays and wildcat. He's one of the few people I remember actually not hating throwing WR screens to because you just needed to find ways to actually get the ball in his hands. As you said he also was also very good in kick/punt coverage and everyone knows he was elite in kick returns and well above average in punt returns. I guess his biggest counting stat would be KR TDs and all purpose yards but being 2nd in KR TDs and 31st in all purpose yards isn't that impressive. He did manage to lead the league in APY once and came in second by just 6 yards another. The one he came in second is 6th all time, unfortunately Fred Jackson had the 5th best all time the same year. Cribbs belongs in the hall of "weird freakish athletes nobody could find a consistent use for on offense but was fun to watch". I guess the argument for Cribbs is similar to Hester in that he was uniquely talented at returns and certainly a top 10 return man all time, but I don't really know if that is enough unless we start letting in a lot of specialists. Hester is a step above Cribbs in that regards because Cribbs definitely has peers in the same tier as him at kick return, while Hester seemed a tier above everyone else all time at punt return.

Flikken posted:Would love to have him in this offense doing those direct snaps Stefanski loves so much. He would definitely take a direct snap while in motion then pass the ball downfield for a first down or TD at least once and it would rule. That 2020 season where there were tons of trick plays I remember thinking Cribbs would be really fun to watch in that offense.

The Puppy Bowl posted:If the Ravens lose to the Dolphins, the Bills are probably locked into the #6 seed. No reason to play starters week 18, compared to the Dolphins who will be playing for a bye. Hard to imagine Buffalo would pull that one out. If the Ravens lose to the Dolphins they need to play starters week 18 unless the Browns lose to the jets tonight. Otherwise they risk losing the division to the Browns. They probably won't lose to the dolphins though, so they'll probably rest starters week 18 anyway.

The Puppy Bowl posted:The Ravens and Dolphins would have to play starters. Ravens to win the division and to potentially land the 1 seed. Dolphins to secure the 1 seed. The Bills, would have no reason to play their starters. Even with a win they would be a game behind the Dolphins and the Browns. They couldn't even move from 6 seed to 5 seed. That makes the likelihood of a Bills win week 18 real low. Which makes Miami/Baltimore basically the only important variable for who gets number 1. Oh I see what you're saying. I misread your post completely.

CubanMissile posted:lol Browns ain’t going to the Super Bowl, c’mon In a couple weeks they will just have to win 3 games to do it and the biggest challenge of the whole thing is needing to win a game in Baltimore, a thing they've already done once this year. I certainly wouldn't bet money on it, but there really is a chance, especially if Flacco keeps putting up 300+ yards a game and they get to rest up a lot of these injured guys week 18 since they've clinched #5.
