Dredd - Cool, fun, tight.

I've heard praise about this over the years but haven't bothered with it. Seemed like a generic action movie. Is it worth it? I'd assume very few practical effects and just a bunch of cg crap

I think maybe The Thirteenth Floor (1999) might fit the mold but it's been ages since I've seen it and I remember not being blown away. Of course any of the Cube-likes but they're a bit off base.

I was huge into the Matrix as a kid and seeing Dark City like a decade later was interesting but ultimately a let down

After it was featured on BotW, I tracked down a copy of Stone Cold starring Brian Bosworth and it is even more fantastic than the episode made it look.

I've watched Stone Cold at least twice since the BotW. It seriously owns and is top tier B-level action shlock. The stunts are wild, Bosworth plays it perfectly, solid plot and pretty stacked cast giving their all. For anybody who enjoys Arnold/Stallone/JCVD it's a must watch

Later the DVD proved the alternate endings true of course but I can't find mention of it happening on the big screen during its run.

Tonight I showed Zoolander to a friend who hasn't seen it before. She loved it.
Honestly, it's perfectly paced and every segment has at least one gag in it. How it only has 6.5 on imdb is surprising, it's a strong 7.
Not only quotable, but strong memorable set pieces and cartoon-y humor that doesn't wander outside the bounds of reality.

You know, what? duchovny was good and such a great gag as the conspiracy theorist, but I think in terms of stunt casting, Zoolander might have been the GOAT with the David Bowie Cameo. Might be the best stunt cast of all time.

What some some other fun stunt castings?

I will take Fred Willard in anything. What a gem.
I was looking for something similarly paced but Austin Powers is too slow moving and all the Apatow stuff is pretty lame honestly. We've seen Airplane and Naked Gun/Police Squad now.

The thing that I never realized on last watch was the multiple Garry Shandling cameos because I hadn't seen Larry Sanders before (nor It's Garry Shandling's Show) but I was stoked every time he was on screen for like three quarters of a second, just acting like his neurotic self.

Duchovny as a pseudo-XFiles cameo was wonderful and he let himself on screen looking like a total schlub. Legend.

Doing a randomized Seinfeld rewatch. Holy hell does this not hold up whatsoever. The slap bass used to be novel but it's constant and brutal. The laugh track is unbearable. Once you hit season 7 the plots and gags are miserable. Jerry (and Larry) is/are the luckiest guy(s) in showbiz to hit with this garbage at just the right time.

So after the Discord server screening I missed, on goon recommendation I grabbed 'My Science Project' (1985) and threw it on with a friend tonight expecting to bail on it. That was actually such a solid movie, we both had a blast with it. Legit belly laughs.

So it turns into a comedy just before the third act and the plot makes no sense, but how intentional were the parody aspects? Making fun of 80s tropes halfway through the 80s is wild to me. Anybody have any light to shed on this oddball flick that almost nobody has heard of (but now is a personal favorite of mine)?
