Why does it matter if the DA was having a relationship with another prosecutor in her office or that they hired to join the team?

I keep seeing articles about this but haven't seen any way that it would impact the defendants or make any difference in their cases.

doesn't really impact the case, but it's a "probably wasted taxpayer money" problem

insofar as their actions impacted the Trump case, it's good for Trump, because one of the complaints is that Wade would instead have been replaced with someone more skilled in the relevant areas

pulling one or both of them for conflict of interest is not unreasonable afaict, and it's going to be a problem for Willis and possibly Wade career wise, but it's not a big deal for Trump other than buying him some delay, which he wants

no, the administration is (as far as I can tell) not putting kids in cages

I've done some deep-ish dives on ORR's stats in dnd (sorry cant be assed to root through my post history) and what i can find of conditions but the really quick upshot is that once the emergency shelter backlog was handled the office of refugee resettlement has been handling unaccompanied minors in an... okay fashion and time frame

2028 is very likely going to be a clown car even if Harris is the incumbent (god forbid), but we have a lot of really good clowns lined up. There are going to be people running we don't predict, even. Of the people who currently are prominent, I'm tentatively rooting for either Pritzker or a union leader - Shawn Fain is loving great, if he wants to run for president I'd love it.

mannerup posted:

I think this is still a correct take, and to offer a defense of the other side (that Trump is worse than Buchanan) you would need to make the case that Buchanan was just merely ineffective, incompetent and unable to lead during the prelude to the Civil War rather than being actively hostile towards the process (which you can point out for Johnson during early reconstruction),

Bleeding Kansas shows where his position lied with the sentiment at the time and when you add how he handled himself shortly after Lincoln was declared the victor of the election in his last Congressional speech...

I could see somebody making the argument Trump is worse than Buchanan solely because the former actively sought and encouraged interfering in the electoral process for personal gain, compared to Buchanan being an ineffective administrator at at time of the biggest political crisis for the country (but you have to also accept Buchanan fully supported the Dred Scott decision from the Supreme Court as valid, meaning that black people were property and property did not have standing to litigate a case before the Supreme Court).

There's a reason why Buchanan and Johnson are the two easy pulls for the worst President, and that's because the former screwed up enough to give the Confederates the best hand heading into the Civil War and the latter ensured their victory in Reconstruction. The fact that Trump is in comparison with those two men in particular should be more than enough to show where he lies in the Presidential ranking.

A large chunk of Buchanan's cabinet spent years transferring troops and material to the South in preparation for an inevitable succession. He was also actively supportive of poo poo Supreme Court decisions in favor of slavery to the point of threatening the chief justice with basically blackmail, and deliberately sat on his hands in the early days of secession.

Trump is a lovely fascist who would rather like to overthrow democracy and flubbed a deliberate coup, Buchanan enabled a huge chunk of the country to launch a civil war and made it much worse than it would otherwise have been. Trump might still beat Buchanan but rn he's solidly silver medal.
