fwiw the character creator at least holds a steady 45fps at 1440p for me on my (very long in the tooth) Ryzen 5 3600x and RTX 3060Ti. That's the recommended CPU according to the steam store page and better than the recommended GPU, and the texture setting certainly seem to be absolutely cranked up, so I'm pretty hopeful that active gameplay on like, medium settings without ray tracing or anything will be attainable. And if it's not, well, I needed something to push me over the edge into buying a thousand dollars worth of computer parts that will be obsolete in five years and maybe being hype for DD2 will do it.

Sweating with my 2080ti here and looking forward of playing DD2 this weekend with settings that make everything look like playdough.

I'm thinking about going Mystic spearhand this time. In the first game I played Big Sword Man and while that was fun, I want to switch things up a bit. Looks like it'll be a combo between fighter and mage which is incidentally a type of class I've played a few times in games like Dark Souls / Elden Ring.

The performance is pretty terrible. I'm running a 2080 super and a Ryzen 9 3900X and the rig is 4 years old, so it's not a powerhouse by no means - but I've been able to play stuff like RDR2, Cyberpunk, Starfield, BG3 etc. with very good graphics. DD2 doesn't look like a very impressive game either. A bit disappointed since I was really looking forward to it, at least in the first sequence you get control the FPS bounce about wildly from 35 to 55 or so. I have no idea would it be better to wait or just bite the bullet and accept it's never gonna be a lot better on this PC.

So currently there is no way to just start a new game, huh? I got a good idea for me and a friend and our pawns just after starting, but from what I read Capcom are "looking into" adding that option (although it was in the same post as looking into performance...)

I had some real magic voodoo poo poo experience ; when I tried the game last night, I got like 30-50 wildly fluctuating FPS in the opening open world sequence with the goblins... and now after making a new character with the save deleting, I got very steady ~60-70 FPS in the same section, felt really smooth to play. Only difference I can think of was to set my screen refresh rate to lower than it actually is (120/144), taking the frame limiter off and playing on windowed fullscreen instead of full... I didn't touch the settings beyond that, since the game started out in some 600x400 window again and I had to adjust it. Perhaps it will dip back later. But definitely left me a lot more optimistic, even if it does take a hit later on, but if it'd be like this for open world, it'd be very enjoyable even on my old rig (ryzen 3900x & 2080 super).

Made a beefy warrior named Batsu (which funnily enough was in the pre-made sound list) yeah yeah, not original, sue me, but I am thinking I can top out the party with a white-haired dude and a black-haired gal from the pawns list pretty easily.

Should I try and get a full pawn party right at the start after making my own? Or just roll with the main pawn for a while? I guess the RC costs will stop me from hiring, say, Ralsei's level 28 mage (looks great btw) ?

Yeah I'm finding most of the goon pawns are higher since I'm just starting out. I'll roll with the random ones for now.

Had time to play a few hours last night, ran a lot better than me initial run, which left me carefully optimistic. It did take a dive already in Melve, so how'll the capital be, but open world was fine. Still kinda learning the controls, only level 9, but I added my pawn Couscous to the spreadsheet if anyone wants to take her along.

I mean, I'm meant to talk to Ser Whatever at the gates of Melve and head to the capital with him, but I just keep finding stuff in these starter woods!

Also how did you get killed by a slime? My main strategy for fighting those things is to just stand in them and mash attack, they do nothing to me.

Well, they are immune to physical attacks, and once my elemental weapon buff ran out, they just slimed me and I was "caught" in them and got stunlocked and died. It probably didn't help I had huge death penalty racked up. Eventually managed to get through the cave.

To start the quest, the old woman just leaves after a while and goes to the hill where the big statue is, I could talk to the girl when she was gone and she started the quest. She does mention to bring the grimoires when the granny is not around, so maybe it even fails if you don't?

I'm traveling with Ser Gregor now and he said we were supposed to get an ox-cart, but it's nowhere to be seen. I remember others talking about an ox-cart, so is this actually a consequence of me dawdling around before going on his quest or is it just a scripted thing?

Do I need to change my vocation to archer to do his quest, is there gonna be archering involved?

Also do update the spreadsheet for your pawn levels, I tried to have some Garfield in my life and he'd jumped from 12 to 22! So were the three others I tried so the list is kinda moot if the levels aren't accurate.

I realized the riftstone right past the Mountain's secret right at the start of the game (Riftstone of Potential) shows pawns that have never been taken out on a quest. How daunting must it be to return to the game and never see your pawn get picked up. At least the next time I play I have to see if I can help at least a few fellas out (assuming their pawns are at least geared and have something easy like a days travel quest!)

I think this is where I'm at right now. I'm in very early game still, just got the three main quests from Idris Elba but mostly I've been running around the forest outside the big city trying out various classes. I still plan to be a warrior, but I did archery for the quest for the elf (and despite it being powerful against bosses, I also found out I don't like aiming with a controller) and probably will try thief next. If nothing else, at least I can get some juicy passives out of it, I guess?

I was doing A Trial of Archery with Glyndwr and what kept tripping me in the final part was that I kept trying to pick up the father, and did not see the sister lying in the ground... was wondering why she kept escaping me. All elves look the same with my graphic settings!

It was a fun quest, put the portcrystal in Sacred Arbor to save on some travel time if I want to go back. Although I only got two ferrystones left after returning to the capital. I'm thinking whether to just buy ferrystones whenever the sundries shop has them and just try and find armor and weapons in the wild?

I got an escort quest from the elf, thought I'd ride the oxcart with him but then the quest failed. Maybe he didn't have money for the cart?

Then I get an oxcart quest to go deliver a letter to Melve and Sir Lennart, and no more than a minute after departure a griffon trashes the cart! (first griffon I killed, too). I wonder if there's another cart ready to go or do I need to walk there myself

I managed to get forward in the quest by putting on my courtly clothes (I don't have a guard uniform) and just walked through the palace courtyard to the tower, there some NPC said Captain Brant told him I'd be there (??? missed this plan completely) and let me through.

We won the ensuing fight and I am here to assure you all that just barely clinging to the back of a griffin while it flies around trying to dodge lightning strikes and fireballs and making an attack run on your party is exactly as god drat :black101: as in DD1.

See, I described the exact thing happening to me just a bit earlier, so I'm thinking it might be scripted? Or just some dumb luck. It was the first griffon I killed, one got away earlier, perhaps it was the same one? It was funny that the quest NPC didn't acknowledge this in any way when I returned, he just thanked me for protecting the cart.

It was funny going back since it felt like the quests Lennart had were more like starter quests, giving you a tutorial to throw a pot etc. but I had not been back since leaving for the capital. Even tried to go and kill that first cyclops because I have a goon pawn who has a quest for it but it didn't spawn anymore.

I'd like to play the archer more but what's putting me off is that you have to buy the special arrows. It kinda creates a feeling of "do I really need to use this outside of boss battle" and if I don't, then I have two skills to use in regular combat (currently dire shot and upgraded barrage). Maybe that's it. I also can't seem to pull off the special jump backflip attack, my guy just does a high kick like in Mortal Kombat instead of the backflip if I press Y/Triangle.

I got to level 26 and only now beginning to feel like the main quest is moving somewhere. I should go to the coronation but apparently this is a point of no return so I should finish up some quests. I haven't found anything for the witch-in-training so I hope that stuff turns up later. A few quests definitely refer to later locations.

The main quests from Brant have been really short in hindsight and I kinda wish I did them a bit earlier. They're mostly just walking around and talking to people.

Also pretty tempted to use higher level pawns from goon friends but I am gonna try to find some closer to my level. Haven't had as much time to play so a lot of people are constantly talking about stuff I have no idea about. But I would like to see something new besides Venworth now. And maybe find/buy some new armor, my warrior is still rocking mostly his starting gear and the big spiky mace you can buy as soon as you enter Venworth.

The dice was loaded from the start, I had absolutely no chance of making it. We fought in the darkness, surrounded by water, and the Dullahan warped immediately next to the bridge where people kept falling into the water. What skills do you use on warrior? I've been playing on the warrior (rank 8 now) and mystic spearhand (6 or so) mainly and compared the warrior just feels quite sluggish. To be fair that's just thief in general.

(end sphinx spoilers) You just have to attack her multiple times to get her to pay attention to you before she flies off, which is most easily done with a ranged weapon. I don't know that it has to specifically be the wings. And then you can use the arrow she conveniently rewards you in one of the chests to make sure you win once she consents to a fight. I don't know if there's a way to do the fight the "legit" way but this was the easiest way to do it. I also had to revert to an inn save though because I didn't attack her fast enough the first time.

I'm guessing it was the debuff ring that failed me the first time, but I also shot at the wings for good measure. Ne'ertheless I was able to trigger the fight and hit her with the unmaking arrow the second time.

Also I was underwhelmed by fighter’s Skyward Slash attack but the upgraded Warrior equivalent rips (literally) bc it is basically the Axel uppercut from Streets of Rage 2 — use it on a tall guy and you’ll get multiple hits out of it. Stunlock a cyclops

Honestly I've been playing both and I still don't know which I like better. MSH has all the mobility (and the bubble) but then again warrior is just so drat brutal. It feels so satisfying swinging your weapon around and send small mobs flying or stand on top of a big mobs head and whack them in the face.

I have a pretty nice barbarian look going in Bakbattahl. The game even feels like it runs better here. Maybe it's just the capital or Venworth cities they stuffed so full of everything they run like poo poo.

A fun thing about the game is that no one absolutely gives a gently caress about what you do. You can steal everyone's stuff or even accidentally shoot an arrow in someone's gut.

Right after arriving at Bakbattahl I change my vocation and immediately get challenged by some guy. And I have to fight this dude while naked. But no worries, I just pin him into a corner and punch him to submission!
