even C can get a REPL down to 3 cmd line functions 'gcc file.c; ./a.out; gvim file.c' where you can quickly iterate towards a solution how long is the equivalent in C#, where you've got the basic inputs set up and you're iterating on the code bit and watching the output change

Anders demoed a c# repl during one of his "the future of c#" talks around when c# 4.0 came out and people speculated that a feature like that would be in for c# 5.0 but still nothing. mono has one built in and there are c# repl projects that exist but it isn't 3 commands.

on the plus side, it doesn't seem stateful, i.e killing it and restarting it shouldn't destroy much.
