Wanna make a Chapter Master with Artificer armor and the Shield Eternal with a jump pack and thunder hammer using the Raven Guard chapter tactics. It'd be like a flying scouting stealthy orbital bombarding Lysander and cost the same.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks a whole lot like Chapter Master on a bike can move & still fire an orbital bombardment. Additionally, the Burning Blade looks like an amazing thing to take with a Chapter Master, particularly one on a bike (since the chance of wounding yourself with a backfire drops significantly, wounding yourself on a 5 instead of a 4). I mean yeah, 55 points, but 55 points to have 5 base (it's neither two handed nor specialist) s7 ap2 attacks.

AgentF posted:What the gently caress? Dude hits harder than a Bloodthirster for 55 points?! Well, the wargear option is 55 points. He's 130 base. The way I was considering building one would be: 130 base, +20 for a bike, +20 for artificer armor, +55 for the burning blade (s+3, ap2, blind, incandescent). Incandescent has you roll a d6 for every round of combat in which he scores a successful hit, & on a 1, the user takes a s4 ap2 hit. So, 225 points for that. And it'd be 5 attacks because he gets 4 base, plus a bonus for 2 ccw's. How expensive is a Bloodthirster?

Played Darkstrider for Tau a few days ago and pretty impressed with his utility. Outflanking 12 Firewarriors that wound marines on 2+ and can back up after overwatch was devastating to my opponent. One other interesting that happened was outflanking Kroot with sniper rounds. Tried deploying them normally, but they would have been in a terrible area and would have done nothing all game if I left them there. Outflanked them, snapshot them into the side of a Predator, and killed it with three rends. I love being able to move and fire heavy weapons now, people are so scared of shooting at BS1, but who cares? The ability to at least get a shot in is amazing and I think has made me a much more aggressive player that will take bigger risks.

I'm still not sure what point they're supposed to serve now, because they're not great in close combat and not great at shooting. At least Honor Guard are pretty good at close combat with 2+ saves and power weapons. I just put together the Stalker kit, and this thing really begs for magnets. The little cups that the guns rest on aren't supposed to be glued so that the turret can traverse, and there's holes drilled that look perfect to set some magnets in. panascope fucked around with this message at 05:17 on Sep 8, 2013 |

Bike Command Squads seem pretty good still for 135 points baseline, especially with Khan. His Furious Charge transfers to attached units so if you buy a couple of them power axes they'll each have 4 S6 AP2 attacks on the charge, albeit at I1. The Apothecary seems like an obvious buy for that configuration since he'd grant Khan FNP as well. Honour Guard are so good, especially with the Chapter banner. That gives them 4A base, 5 on the charge, with power weapons and artificer armor standard for 25 points each. Yeah. I'm totally putting a unit in a Stormraven if I ever run a biker Chapter Master (w/ the Burning Blade, natch.) He only runs 225 points with artificer armor and BB, which isn't too bad, right?

I have a chaos lord with crazy Pfists/Lclaws and a jumppack painted in nightlords but I just can't think of a reason to take a jumppack over a bike. 5pts is a small price to pay for turboboost, +1T and a combi-bolter. I guess he can DS with terminators but it's not like I plan on doing that... Originally he was for a chaos army who was using loyalist codex, then I allied in C:SM with shrike for infiltrating TH/SS. Yeah, I lost every game. Don't do that.

Awesome heavy weapons, the bases look great. I am really unimpressed with my autocannons in the game recently, but that's probably just due to not facing many vehicles. Aside from a few rhinos, I've only played against Tyrandids, or my enemies mostly rely on MCs and heavy weapons squads as their HS.

I decided to compare librarians between the new SM codex and the DA codex. The main differences are: DA: Fearless PE: Chaos Marines Access to DA wargear Access to Divination SM: ATSKNF Chapter Tactics Access to SM wargear Cheaper ML 2 upgrade (25 vs. 35 points) Cheaper Terminator upgrade (25 vs. 30 points) Access to Storm Shield for 10 points w/terminator upgrade So the DA librarian has access to better force multipliers, in my opinion, as preferred enemy extends to the unit you're in, they have access to divination, and some DA wargear buffs nearby units (powerfield generator). The SM librarian can be a better combat character and most upgrades are cheaper. I think this is one point on which the DA codex has a leg up on the new SM codex as force multipliers on a cheap HQ are a good thing. The major downside for the SM librarian is that it's hard to get an invulnerable save without taking terminator armor (or the shield eternal.) I compared these guys to the chaos sorc as well, but I feel like that comparison may come off as whiny, so let's just say that I believe the sorc, while having some advantages, is clearly an inferior choice to either librarian choice. Go for a chaos lord instead. Edit: I've been looking at Company Master Vs. Captain as well, and I think the Company Master compares pretty favorably here. The obvious downside is no FoC altering bike or chapter tactics, but you can grab the mace of redemption, which is essentially a much superior relic blade for only 5 points more (25 vs. 30 points, plus bonuses against csm with the mace) and you get fearless and PE:CSM. I'm not sure that either are going to be a go to choice though (outside of biker armies in the SM codex). Most people seem to go for FOC altering HQs or HQs with force multipliers. Still, I think certain chaos lord builds are going to blow both of these choices out of the water. The amount of ap2 attacks that a khorne jugger lord can throw out with the axe is crazy! When you add up the attacks (2 weapons +1, jugger +1, rage +2 or counter-attack +1, +2-6 (usually...), +3 base) and possibly hatred, it's going to hurt. Even the black mace, despite it's poor ap value, does pretty well thanks to fleshbane and cursed. humannature fucked around with this message at 14:10 on Sep 8, 2013 |
