The whole route from Seattle to San Francisco (I'm not even from here but it's not San Fran drat it) is scenic, it's just that some parts are slightly more scenic than others I rode SF to Portland on a motorcycle and loved every mile, even the parts where I just blasted up I-5 on the Willamette Valley.

I plan on going from San Diego to Washington next summer by sportbike - should be fun. I'm gonna end up flying out to the Bay and buying a bike here soon too... definitely going to check out some of the local roads while I'm there. Last time was ABQ, New Mexico for a Triumph 675 on Halloween - hopefully this trip goes smoother.

Enough about lovely janky Italian eurotrash cars and commie bicycle garbage. I found a real car. The best car. 1974 Spirit of America Edition Chevy Nova. It's for sale, but didn't say how much on the sign. If I could afford it, I would buy this car and drive it forever.

BlackMK4, how is New Mexico in late October? I'm considering riding out to south Texas for my brother's graduation on Oct 25 and I'd like to know if I'll be freezing my balls off like the Portland trip (which took place early October) or if I'll be pretty ok.

Think drafting 10ft behind a semitruck or you're stopping every 20 min since your hands and body are so cold it's literally unbearable. It was in the 30's. During the day it'd be chilly.

Balls, I've got waterproof pants... and a mesh leather jacket that is really nice in California summers. I survived the trip up to Portland, but goddamn it was cold while the sun was behind the mountains, before I got up to Coos Bay the second day and got a balaclava at Walmart.

I own one of those. What's interesting is that the dodge concept car was created as part of a program under the federal government called PNGV 'Supercar', and that ESX2 concept came out in ~98 i think, so it was actually concurrent with the development of the Insight. Difference being, when the supreme court appointed Dubya to rule the american empire, he gleefully acquiesced to industry demands to cancel the supercar program so they wouldnt have to build these 80mpg family cars. "People don't even want them," they said."They'll cost us way too much to produce, and all the money right now is in 15mpg SUVS, not efficient family cars!". And all the money was, right up until the entire American car industry went to poo poo and filed bankruptcy because their product lines couldn't accomodate the rapid shift in customer expectations to fuel-efficient vehicles in the mid-late 00s. So while we were busy saving capitalism from itself with socialist policies because W. et al bought into stereotypical industry lies about hardship and costs, the Japanese and pretty much everyone else in the whole world skipped merrily along. And I, a big Dodge lover, drive a Honda Insight as a DD. But don't worry, i still own 8-9 dodges, depending on whether you count my 1980 Plymouth Arrow Pickup which is actually japanese. Ugh those drink fountains are terrible. Everything comes out of the same nozzle so you get taste cross-contamination and people take 5 minutes looking at all the options instead of just getting their pour on and going. I am angry about soda machines.

Previa_fun posted:Ugh those drink fountains are terrible. Everything comes out of the same nozzle so you get taste cross-contamination and people take 5 minutes looking at all the options instead of just getting their pour on and going. Yeah I've found the machines to be pretty underwhelming, plus the control is so janky... you press and hold the pour button, it eventually starts going, then when you release it the soda takes quite a while to stop flowing so you make a loving mess. I did enjoy reading a whiny Internet rant about how these are so terrible because the poster could TOTALLY DIE if so much as a drop of artificially-sweetened soda mixes with her soda and enters her highly allergic body. In general I view them as a solution to a problem people didn't really have--I never found myself craving Raspberry Coke Zero, and after trying it, I wasn't missing much. It's sort of like those big soda machines with the little conveyor belt that moves up right to the bottle you want. The old machines didn't really shake things up anyway, and they would drop your soda and your change immediately and simultaneously. The new machines, you pick your soda, it moves the belt up, drops the soda on the belt, moves the soda to the little dispensing area for you, and then pauses 5 seconds before finally dropping your change.

My mom's '73 hatchback was red with white top, I'm disappointed she didn't hold out for that one. There was some weird poo poo tied into the Bicentennial. Mom's first father-in-law, upon the divorce, agreed that his son was a jerk and gave her a blank check to buy herself a car to make up for it. She was going to order a sedate yellow Nova, but the red SS was right there in the showroom... When she got pregnant several years later she sold it to her cousin and bought a Ford Fairmont wagon. Cousin totaled the Nova three weeks later. I, as a fetus, was indirectly responsible for the death of a Nova SS.
