although I didn't get poo poo for good weapons at the first planet it had good mineral wealth (Platinum and Diamonds down below)

Try wacking some loose dirt with it, it has nice large radius and kinda fun for tunneling through hills with it. Also if you have wooden platforms, with chests on them or stuff like that in your ship, keep in mind that platforms are I think one of the easiest to break blocks in the game. This is assuming all of that style of weapon work the same way. Mine was called Pirate Rockthunker and I love it.

Also keep in mind that 30s despawn rate of dropped items while you are scrambling to place chests and refill them with stuff even though your inventory just got filled with everything dropped from the chests, except for the chests themselves.

Ooh, you know how much I'd fuckin' love it if you could upgrade the Matter Manipulator? The only other tool would be the cheap hoe because it would probably be a huge pain in the rear end to code like a "mine/till" toggle to the MM.

I also hope they start making larger furnaces so you can smelt multiple items at once. Also, keep everything on your ship running when you beam down and give us a green room for growing vegetables. It's kind of a problem how they don't grow unless someone's on the planet.

You can't mine your pilot chair, but even if you can mine the teleporter, it only serves a cosmetic beaming role and you can port from the top-right menu you use to get back to your ship.

So I decided to try to find out why Armor worked in beta sector and was useless in Alpha, and here is what I found:

Steam\SteamApps\common\Starbound\assets\leveling contains the folders that control scaling. For instance, it's got monsters.config which allows you to scale the variation on monster difficulty (monsters are .0 at day, .5 more dangerous at night, .75 more underground, etc!) This folder also contains a file that controls armor scaling, and these are it's contents:

The first code is your defence rating, the next codes look like "tiers" of minimum damage damage, like someone theorized earlier in the thread. This backs up what others have found out: Up until Defense 15, armor makes no difference in tier 1 stuff, at which points it knocks off a whole .7 damage. Meanwhile, the exact same armor scales really well in higher tiers.

I'd rather have a light taking up my back slot than my helmet slot with potentially lower defense than whatever helmet I'd otherwise be wearing, personally. Plus it could always be some shoulder-mounted lamp or something! Being equipped on the back doesn't mean it has to be physically on the character's back.

The only bad thing I see about that list is the fact that the absolute maximum armor you can get right now is 500 with Impervium stuff. Neat that it's laid out nicely like that though.

There's a head accessory slot though, could just make it a headlamp band. that works in conjunction with your armored helmet. Or maybe that's a neck slot? Only thing I've found so far for that slot was a sort of neckerchief.

Switch it back and create a recipe for coal for the smelter. Put it in recipes/starter/stonefurnace/ as coalore.recipe.

Open player.config and add this under tier1:

That makes it so for every 2 of chopped wood it'll give you 100 coal. Change that value to whatever you want for coal output.

Somehow I managed to completely remove my fuel gauge/hatch. I ended up having to create a recipe for another one.

There are some recipes to smelt alloys, oddly enough (as in multiple bars in the input = 1 bar in the output). I don't know that they'll offer true "input 1 -> output 1" "input 2 -> output 2" in one furnace though.

I would not mind the hunger mechanic if this game had the much mentioned alongside it pause button. Though at the very least, it could to do have food to fill your hunger more. I can understand that most fresh from the ground plants only fill two bars, but having that first bit of alien meat from a monster who can take off half your health in one shot cooked over a campfire (because it can't be made on a wooden cooking table :downs:) fill only THREE bars is a letdown, no matter how much they adjust the meat drop rates for what weapon. Hunting bow is a joke and too risky to try and finish off enemies you wore down with melee because of how fast most of them are (when not spamming ranged attacks). The Iron Bow still takes two, SOMETIMES three shots on it's own, and the most "harmless" wildlife on my world is also very short and very fast, so once it get's close good loving luck hitting them with a bow before they shred you.

The top half of my ship is lined with dirt to grow wheat, because at least bread fills 6 bars. I'd grow food at planetary spawn points but they don't like to grow most of the time when I do that for some reason.

If that's all you've edited just have Steam verify your files to replace anything that isn't the standard file that's still sticking around and it should be fine to edit again.

I know in terraria if you tried to put the miner's helmet (which gave light) in the cosmetic slot, it turned the light off, making it loving useless. They might do the same here.

The line you want is fuelamount, not coalamount (not sure if that was a typo)

The crash is probably caused by invalid syntax; every line that isn't the final line before the close bracket must have a comma at the end, the final line cannot have a comma at the end

Right click the game, go to properties. click on Local Files, and then verify integrity of cache.

You might want to delete your coalore.item before verifying - Steam will always download a missing file, but I don't think verifying integrity with Starbound catches modified assets, which was probably done intentionally so that you don't lose your mods every time you verify.

Cosmetic in games these days (after the advent of f2p microtransaction games) generally means "purely cosmetic", adding light adds additional functionality to your character by affecting gameplay. Anything in a cosmetic slot will serve absolutely no function; mining hats in Terraria's cosmetic slots had their light disabled.

Steam'll reload the original player.config which won't reference coalore so it won't load that recipe at all so it's not much of an issue.

Adding light affects gameplay. Therefore for it to function it would need to go in the slots that affect gameplay. Have you never played a modern MMO?
