Gah, apparently XBox Live is in the middle of some critical failure. Something so bad that I haven't been getting my achievements while playing Child of Light. I knew something was up when I hit level 10 and didn't get a ding. I don't know if I care to start over again... or really even finish the game, it's so loving treacly and whimsical. Nevermind dull as hell. Pretty, but dull as hell.

Yep, I'm pretty pissed. I woke up, walked in front of the TV while my girlfriend was watching netflix. It tried to log me in, that failed and kicked her off Xbox live. I can't even play any games nows because I can't switch to my account because it fails to log in. I just wanted to play some trials before I had to leave today.

This runs contrary to my experience with it. I've been working on an RPG in my spare time for a number of years and things have finally progressed to the point where I'm trying to cobble together a community site and see about testing/porting it to other platforms. I applied to the ID program, it took them 3 weeks to process my application, I was accepted but told that "dev kits are limited" and received nothing except some email invitations to conferences. I've asked a few times for other guidance or for other resources while waiting for a dev kit and received no response. Steam and Sony are way easier to deal with, Sony didn't even ask for a work sample for the SDK and has been super helpful with documentation and guidance. Steam directed me to Greenlight docs but they were pretty transparent about the rest of the process. If you're a "notable" indie then maybe ID is great but I'm not having a great experience with it so far. It feels like press release fluff more than a coherent program but hopefully others are having more luck than I am.

I am sure this will be yet another year that I am intrigued by something that CoD is doing but not actually buy it. But man, exoskeletons.

Well, XBox Live is back, but my achievements in Child of Light still aren't triggering. I restarted and powered through the beginning, and the first achievement that I missed before - you get one when Rubella joins the party - still didn't trigger the second time I went through. I think this is due to achievements triggering when your UPLay account triggers them, and previously, before restarting, UPlay WAS recording the achievements, but not XBox Live while it was down. So now, I have the achievement on my UPlay account, and that makes it impossible to trigger it again in the game so XBox Live can give me the cheevo. My theory, anyways. I know this is a pathetic niggle but does anyone have any suggestions as to who I can bring this up to? Knowing that the achievements in this game are fickle and dependent on being able to phone home to Microsoft is pretty deflating. edit: Apparently this is a known issue - http://www.xboxachievements.com/forum/showthread.php?t=575095 It's also affecting the 360 version. Assuming you're right about the achievement only triggering when uPlay triggers it, this sounds like something Ubisoft will have to fix, either by removing the achievements from your account if they can (which you can then re-earn), or by some future patch that ensures the achievement pops correctly if there's a desync like that.

Am I not able to see what specific games people are playing unless my profile has logged in on an Xbox One or something?

And since they can't very well require all developers to create a trial for every single game, the requirement is gone. So nobody is bothering to release them.

Man, these update previews are kind of annoying. I had an update waiting for my console to be powered on, which led to my game updates not downloading. so after downloading 1.2GB to play battlefield, I got to join my friends party and get hit with another 300MB update to party chat, presumably. then that downloads in 10 minutes and causes my console to restart and now install the update. I dont know what 'background updates' means in Xbox HQ, but it certainly doesnt align with any rational understanding of the concept. 2.5hrs now and I still havent been able to play a game because of updates. I figured this would be a better place to ask than the BF4 thread since I doubt any of them have 'bones. So I booted up my 'bone for the first time in about a month, and after a 600 MB system patch and a 1.2 GB BF4 patch, I was fired up and ready to play on some of them newly unleashed private servers with 64 player rush and some 64 (or at least 32) TDM. Then I get on and check and see only official and ranked servers. Then I notice I can search for private only, and I see a whopping 4 loving private servers, all of which are password protected, and all of which are playing Domination with 10/20 players on the server. I bought BF3 when it came out, but kept playing BFBC2 for about 6-8 months after because of BF3's lovely launch, but I remember private servers (500%, all Metro all the time, no shotguns or ban!! unless you're the admin in which case use shotguns ))) vastly outnumbering the EA servers. I also only came across like 2 password protected servers out of like 50 hours of playing BF3. So, anyone know what's up with private servers? I know they're pretty limited right now, but wtf? all playing domination? Who the gently caress even plays Domination? Every time I've checked the official EA servers for Dom there have been like 3 servers playing it. The only thing more anemic than Domination is Obliteration (usually literally 0 full servers).

The only reason I bought BF4 was because of the increased player count, only to find out that they actually DECREASED the player count for TDM. Good Christ. I hope at least they'll add a Close Quarters-like expansion in the future, which was the only playmode that I really enjoyed on the console version of 360. Why they even put Armor Kill on console who knows. The console version of AK was one of the worst AA video game experiences I've ever seen. I liked rush on vanilla BF3, but I stopped playing shortly after they added private servers and started rebalancing guns. I'd just had enough. I haven't even touched BF4 since Titanfall came out, and I doubt I will again unless one of the expansions turns out to be outstanding. Battlefield games always seem to start out strong and lose steam after Dice fucks with them enough. I really liked vanilla BF4 after the kinks got worked out.

If steam needs an update, it waits until you're ready without stopping you from playing the games you've purchased. Normally, it works fine. the game updates download when the console is in standby mode, and then will take a few minutes to install when you attempt to play it. Depending on the actual content being updated, the 'ready to play' function is also there (though in BF4s case, its usually multiplayer patches, which means you can only play campaign). Forza for example, when adding new tracks or cars, you can boot the game and start playing and the game doesnt use the content until its ready. It handles the function really well. It may not have been due to the preview program as I hadnt had my xbox on in a week or so due to life happening, but I noticed the power bricks light was orange (fully powered off) and new it would update when I turned it on - this was downloaded successfully and just needed an install. However, that full power off prevented battlefield from downloading and installing a patch, which then took 2 hours to download and install. Normally, this would only be a few minutes while the console did a long boot, installed the update, then applied the BF4 update. Crafty posted:Sounds like you should opt out of being a beta tester. I liked the idea of being able to provide feedback in a more direct manner (since the error logs and usage info is collected) although its starting to be significantly less valuable than just being able to play games.

I'm gald you are having fun on your gaming device of choice, after all that's what it's all about. But why would you huddle around a PC? I can stream games from my PC to other devices if I like or even to my TV over wireless HDMI - it's really cool and doesn't tie you to the TV (if you don't want to be). Also, constant hardware upgrades, really? Come on man. OK, small wager for you - I bet if I don't upgrade my PC for five years it will still run Titanfall at 1080p and 60 fps easily, without breaking a sweat - the only condition is you don't upgrade your gaming device of choice as well and see how that does. As for 'office productivity' well that's just a bonus you get with every PC I guess, yours to use if you want or need it. My PC paid for itself long ago by being used for work sometimes, can you say the same?
