The monsters aren't a problem on their own, but it's a combination of all the elements that makes the run to the fog gate harrowing. I have some difficulty budgeting my stamina between killing the monsters/mace dudes, blocking their attacks, and dodging the magic projectiles. And with the water slowing me down and hiding deadly pitfalls, I'm also eating up some stamina to sprint backwards along the path I took to find some cover.

It's not too bad up until the part before the fog gate, where you have that loving foot-high platform that you have to circle all the way around (why the poo poo is that even there), and there are three or four mages and two mace dudes and a scattering of monsters, all ready to assault you all at once. This was the first time where I tried making a mad dash to the fog gate, only to find that you're completely vulnerable while entering the gate, so I died before I could step through it.

I've tried using bows and crossbows, but maintaining a safe distance means being far enough away that I can't lock on, so I have to burn some ammo just to get my shot lined up... but then the mages seem to have more range than me. So while I'm trying to hit them, they're also flinging projectiles my way, and I have to either tank the shots or get out of the way and start all over with lining up my shots.

Wait which bonfire are you using, the one in the cave? I dont remember there being any priests between the cave and the fog wall...

I enjoyed the game overall, but wished it had as much atmosphere was DS1 to let you know what was going on. It would of been another hook to keep players interested, I didn't really follow what went on in DS2 aside from theres dark, where the king?, here be dark. The last stretch really lacked substance and sorta felt like filler.

I liked the last stretch in DS1 apart from lost izalith being a rushjob and a pain to stare at. And it was neat seeing the zones and what happened/went on there, like new londo got too deep into the daaaarrrrk with spooky ghosts, seath got messed up with crystals all over the drat place, lost izalith is demons and fire cause someone tried to split the soul atom, while nito was chillin in his hole.

I never really got the sense of reason in DS2 of why the great souls where they were, and why you wandered there. DS sorta led you along with the O Chosen Undead thing there which strung you along without revealing too much.

Shrine of Amana > Crumbling Ruins. It's after the first milfanito. There is a poo poo ton of some real loving bullshit between the bonfire and the fog gate, and I still haven't figured out a good way to tackle it all. I've tried using the torch to lure out the monsters to eliminate that variable from the equation, but rather annoyingly, some of them still don't seem to aggro until you get pretty close to them--at which point you've also aggroed two or three other enemies, and the whole situation has just gone to poo poo.

I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here. There's simply no safe way to approach this section, and charging in just means getting swarmed by monsters and perfectly timed projectiles to gently caress you over time and time again.

Hah maybe. Dex builds dont seem very popular, and I ended up with two blacksteel katanas too so I never considered that they might be rare drops. I was one of the people that threw down my small sign like a half dozen times, although that was about replenishing the humanity to summon Lucatiel after every failed Smelter Demon attempt. Apparently I've been dying just before the third bonfire. There's a fog gate sealing off the cave with the bugs and the bonfire, and that's where I died while trying to run past all the enemies.

I don't know if the guy in the video has simply extincted one of the priests or what, but at that point I have two priests flinging spells at me, which makes it considerably harder to stay alive. Plus my bow doesn't have that really handy crosshair on it--do I need to do something special to get in that mode, or is there a different bow I need to be using?

Dark Black Witch's Staff +10 is only slightly worse at hexes than Dark Caitha's Chime +10 and Dark Sunset Staff +10 but it can cast both kinds of hexes at the same time. And Magic Black Witch's Staff +10 is the best magic staff so far and might actually make lovely sorcery nukes worth casting.

This is a fight you must do alone. It's also optional, so don't feel pressured.

I thought this was a really hard fight until I manned up and just did the "stand under him" tactic. Every time he jumps away, run under his belly. Don't lock on. Hit him with whatever you can while under him. You're 100% safe if you're under his belly.

Hmm, I thought that fight was pretty neat, but not too difficult for my setup (block and/or dodge the big hits). I went through as a knight and mage. So far, I've never needed a really high str shield as a mage. I used, in chronological order, the large leather shield, the archdrake shield, and the watchdragon parma.

Usually when you hide in the sides from the blades, the other players pick up on this. You can also dodge them.

He's one of the easiest bosses to kill if you can deal with the adds. Charge right under him and stay between his two hind legs, none of his attacks can actually hit you there.

You can murder everything in the shrine of anime with poison arrows, same goes for the big armored guys before the ancient dragon.

The Grym Greatsheild has 100% fire resist and 100% physical resist, use this to chump the smelter daemon solo.

King Vendric also has no attacks that can hit someone standing directly behind him, lose the shield and circle strafe like a madman.

You can kill all the dragons in the Aerie by standing right next to their left leg, they only do the stomping attack if you do this.

Kill all the stone guards away from the doors except for the ones at the first left. Kill the stone guards at the first left near the door so it opens, and you get a sentinel. Kill that sentinel near the second left, kill the second left sentinel at the third left, kill the third left sentinel at the third right, kill the third right sentinel at the second right, and kill the second right sentinel at the first right.

You'll have no sentinels left and all the doors will be open. Unfortunately you need to have acquired gud before you can do this, but it's well worth it. The advantage of this is that even if one of the sentinels kills you, you can still freely clear the room and not be bothered by respawning sentinels (because they won't respawn).

I think I am just having a bit of poor luck mixed with impatience. I do mostly everything fine but this is usually the first hurdle I face. I had a heap of trouble initially on my Mage because I had zero shield. Which can be a huge pain when you're in the little dips on the side trying to avoid getting gang banged.

Clearing the lil' dudes without dying to him was the hardest part for me. His attack timing was totally weird but for some reason his attacks always seem to miss without dodging them by either moving far off or directly towards his front legs. I spent more stamina sprinting than rolling on that bossfight, but it worked much better than rolling had for me.

I think most of that bossfight I was just amazed that I was far enough away to not get hit. Usually when a boss does a lunge attack that is really close to connecting to your actual character model but doesn't quite connect, you expect it to fully connect because that's how dark souls works. Also summoning is cheating.

Rather fond of the Sea Bow that sometimes drops from the vikings in No Man's Wharf. Good range and good scaling all around, and doesn't have the massive stamina consumption of the Dragonrider Bow.

I have a question as well: Does anyone know of a resource to find which bonfires affect which specific areas and bosses when you Ascetic them?

The one in particular I'm thinking of doing is the Exile Holding Cells in Lost Bastille, to try and farm up something, but if that one extends to the Ruin Sentinels, I'm a bit hesitant.
