That was the Tropes Vs Men In Videogames Indiegogo project. THERE'S MISANDRY IN THEM THAR VIDYA GAMES!!!! These were their pledge reward tiers: Here's their initial video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nw-sjAICwKg Somehow some people missed the fact that it's all an obvious pisstake and gave them money anyway and they apparently pulled in a little more than their $3,300 goal. If you click on the link you'll notice it's now dead which is probably because someone eventually looked into it and found that after they got their money they didn't make any videos or donate it to charities like they'd promised and the whole thing was a scam. Well, they did post one video which is pretty much the sound of someone laughing. Note the special message at the end indicating when they intend to release their next video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-pt0Qgw6Bk I'm not 100% certain of their intentions going into this project but the end result was that they scammed a bunch of MRAs out of a bunch of money so that was actually pretty awesome. :iamafag: Snowglobe of Doom has a new favorite as of 09:42 on May 20, 2014 |

I thought they've produced some evidence that they'd donated the money to charities, but people didn't believe them or something. Anyway, the of it all is that while people tend to criticise Sarkeesian for kickstarting a project that she could readily do on her own, there are literally thousands of youtube videos that either humorously or somewhat seriously try to analise 'misandry' in video games. So those guys didn't need money either.

Managing reach goals is complicated, Kickstarter doesn't let people select multiple reward tiers even if the person pledges enough to cover it, so if you have a $50 pledge and want the $20 and $30 tiers, you can't actually select both of them. Some people were just switching their pledge to the reach goal, which doesn't actually get you any closer to the reach goal.

Luckily for me, one of the two Juggalos I met, Jeremy/Polmar, hosts a radio show and facebook page. He posted a link to the film and it got a few "likes." In a last-ditch attempt, I contacted those people. Here's his Kickstarter page. It looks like he struggled to get any successful marketing or promotion going for it so if you're wondering how he managed to meet his $2,500 goal Kicktraq indicates that he got two $1000 pledges, two $250 pledges and a handful of people threw in $20/$25 for a copy of the book. I'm guessing those four main backers were family and friends so perhaps he could have just asked them directly rather than going to all that trouble. Of course he pretty much wasted that money on non-essential items so he could have just skipped all that altogether. From reading the thread it sounds like he thought that creating the Kickstarter campaign and having a 5 minute youtube animation were types of marketing in themselves (or he though that Kickstarter LLC would promote his project for him, I'm not sure), although he did try a bunch of other things as well. HOWEVER, after all that wasted effort and wasted money it turns out that he actually turned a profit in the end so I have to give him props for that. Edit: he spent $2,500+ and months and months of effort in finding an animator and reviewing and meeting and hiring voice talent in order to create a youtube video which has barely been viewed 1000 times.
