You can't even say "this poo poo makes people uncomfortable loving stop it" or he'll go insane and create massive drama with the potential to shatter forums.
I'm not a mod anywhere and wouldn't want to be, but just out of curiosity: how did you handle the super dumb motherfuckers, who manage to destroy any kind of healthy discussion by making it all about their petty poo poo and whose fulltime job seems to be to occupy a forum? They aren't breaking any rules, but they manage to derail and anger other posters, sometimes to the point that the others, who otherwise would have contributed in a good manner, have to be punished for getting that upset.

I have seen it a bunch of times and it always made me sad. It makes me feel for the person getting upset and the mod, who has to intervene. Is there any way stopping that kind of cancerous poster?

Straight-up saying 'gently caress you, stop being creepy and get off these forums'. Then ban them and probate anyone fervently defending the person because chances are they're also creepy assholes and/or alt accounts.

Basically this. If the forum is small you start with a PM outlining the problem and being all "hey people don't like this, just fix your behavior...you can talk about that stuff but not in every thread. Start a new thread." If they refuse to do that or are a jerk about it then it's banhammer time. Or if you're having a bad day you just hand out a time ban and go about your life. Sometimes being a little arbitrary is useful.

This is why rules like "do not derail threads" or "if I tell you it's wrong it's wrong, tough poo poo" are more or less mandatory rules for properly moderating a forum. "This person is damaging my forum" is a perfectly legitimate reason to get rid of somebody.

We know that they're working on a few new systems (such as how melee weapons work) and are forming a plan on how to handle general game progression, but since they've been relocating the offices and all that news has been a bit scarce.

Does this have to be actual playtime, or does idling in a bed/chair on my space-fish-ship count towards this limit. Not that I want a refund, mind you, I just want to know my options.

It only counts if it's 500 hours of farming, and only boneboos.

I'm really liking these updates, it was a great idea. It seems like a lot of the work right now is the kind of stuff that's easy to dismiss as "nothing happening", because to a user it really is nothing obvious. So it's really cool to see people talking about specifically what nuts & bolts are being tightened & reworked... drafting up better UI windows, working on the way biomes spawn monsters, etc. I'm glad they're going this route.

I'm really enjoying these daily update snippets. I imagine they'll still hold back some stuff to be big reveals or major surprises, but just watching the game take shape is fun. I have no background in coding or development whatsoever, so learning about the nuts and bolts of games development is fascinating.

These are good for the children's brains.
I am going to pretend this game does not exist for another year and maybe by then it will be done enough to live up to all the hype. It was nice looking but completely lacking in depth and polish and actual content the last time I tried it.

Playing little iterations completely sucks the fun out of games for me. It is like reading a book one page a week. This game and Wasteland 2 are really shining examples of the downfalls of these multi-year work-in-progress betas. Maybe it works for some people but I do not like it.

The people who are mad at the video game should consider doing this too.

Goddammit this Cello is way out of tune!
There was next to no updates when their crew was moving to London. Now they're coming fast and furious.

Still the nay-sayers will still go "But I want a refund after playing the game for 500 hours!"
Let's see them get refunds on steam games from AAA publishers that they only play for 20 hours and spent a hell of a lot more money on.

A lot of the hype was from dumb people who thought this was going to be some kind of pokemon 4x game.

I'm still not satisfied, I haven't played since the first few iterations, but all I wanted was slightly different terraria and it wasn't quite that. The combat changes they're talking about was something they had even talked about pre release and it had been one of the things I was excited about. If there's one thing annoying about terraria its the five hundred enemies crashing into you at once no matter where you are.

I'm not going to armchair quarterback about superhyped wide audienced alpha releases, but there has to be a better way. Starbound was released as an incomplete but playable game, and probably could've stood to just go to some testers who knew what they were getting into and could provide valuable intel to them instead of letting the spoiled illiterate children who wanted their game nooooooowwwwww have their wish.

Terraria's kind of an interesting case study as an exception to the early alpha release issues. Every update brings me back to start again.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the combat changes. I really like that monsters aren't nearly as spaz-tastic as they were, but things still feel kinda' floaty and awkward. The main things I'm still worried about in the long run are that I'm not sure how they're going to make the exploring procedurally generated planets and playing Hatchet part of the game feel like a natural part of the more story driven, space opera-y part of the game; also I still don't think the sci-fi/fantasy balance feel quite right, like, Starbound isn't quite hitting that Leiji Matsumoto/Buck Rogers/Starcrash sort of feel yet.

I actually kind of like the early access thing though. At the very least early access games aren't being passed off as complete by their creators, and are usually cheaper than a "full" game.

Haven't even dipped my toes into making a mod, but could a mod silence or cut the volume of the ambience/combat music tracks?
