While it would definitely cause some rage, a rotary engine here in North America is enough of a novelty that people would be interested by it. If you really want to piss off E: Or an electric motor.

I always thought a 1UZ Deuce replica would be fun. The most iconic of the barebones American hot-rods powered by a DOHC Japanese V8, thus still fairly true-to-form but offbeat enough to make just about any hick poo poo their pants.

Apparently the reason my dad couldn't fix the rich running/high idle problem with his truck's carburetor was because it's got TBI. Guess I've got a project this summer!

Yesterday planned to be a very productive evening after work with the eldest kid away at the inlaws, wife back late with the youngest. I'd even decided to get off my rear end, wrap it in spandex and go out for a ride. 6 hours of overtime and nearly an hours commute later I fell straight through the shower into bed. An amp so obsolete I had to phone a human to get hold of a fault code list failed with popped caps so without parameters or documentation we had to leapfrog 30 years of technology and throw in the closest amp we could find, then set it up by guesswork and feel. Straddling a 36kw 400v motor and shouting instructions to the bloke at the amp one direction, another at the controls in the other direction was fun. I learnt and promptly forgot a lot about motors yesterday.

Yeah, the other detail I remember someone posting was that the engine is actually a FWD F series, not the F series out of the S2000, so it wouldn't work anyway. (No idea if that's true or not, just what someone said.)

kastein posted:You couldn't just solder new caps in? First thing we tried (56uF 400v electrolytic) that got it to the state it would power on and self test, giving us a short to ground on the outputs, which persisted when we disconnected the motor wiring There were a few other signs of corrosion on the board and it was nearly 30 years old, and we had another amp, and we needed the press that night.

My ex-fiance's mother emailed me this morning to tell me that he had called her, and that he's never felt happier, so I am happy for him. I took a page from his crazy book and did something impulsive. The last year of living in North Dakota and northern Minnesota has been depressing as gently caress, so I quit my job and I'm moving back to Minneapolis this weekend.
