Any post-rock fans around Glasgow or Edinburgh? I've just moved up here and there doesn't seem to be much of a scene. Looking for gigs and some good local bands/venues to check out. Also I want to go and see We Were Promised Jetpacks next month in Glasgow and I have nobody to go with. Not really the same genre but maybe there's a bit of a crossover fanbase.

Post-rock thread, recommend to me! I really like Te' and stoner-y stuff like Isis (Panopticon!) and Pelican, and the first few tracks off Polinski's Labyrinths are really neat. I also remember liking Those Who Tell the Truth from Ex in the Sky, but I haven't kept up with them since probably that album. But then I've tried Plains of the Purple Buffalo and a couple 65days albums and nothing's really held my attention, so I think I'm skewing more towards the 'rock' of post-rock rather than the drony/ambient side of things. What are some heavy rockers I can add to my stable? \/\/\/ crushed by Youtube links Thanks for all the recommendations, I'll work through them this week and see if anything scratches the itch.

You'll probably want to check out bands that get labeled as "post-metal", seeing as how you already like Isis and Pelican, I think the next obvious recommendation is Russian Circles. Pretty much all of their stuff is good, you can start with their first album "Enter" and go forward from there. I'd also recommend checking out Capricorns and Tides, they both play instrumental sludge that's really solid. Gifts from Enola is another solid post-rock band that gets pretty heavy, I'd recommend checking out their first 2 full lengths and their split EP. There are quite a few other Japanese bands that play a similar style to Te', some of my favorites are 3nd and Lite.

Just went and saw God is an Astronaut in Shanghai today. Amazing show. They covered their top songs from All is Violent All is Bright, Age of the Fifth Sun, and a few from Origins. Only compliant is that the drone was a bit too loud, drowned out some of the lead guitar and synth. Preview of their upcoming song was underwhelming compared to their more iconic songs in previous albums.

Gotten around to listening Hiss Tracts - Shortwave Nights (which is still streaming at http://www.tinymixtapes.com/chocolate-grinder/premiere-hiss-tracts-shortwave-nights). There're clear roots of Set Fire to Flames and it reminds me of Boards of Canada's "Tommorow's Harvest" as well - quity gloomy, slow and repeating. Altogether, liking it so far.

I'm currently listening to the new sleepmakeswaves album Love of Cartography. In a year without many bigger-name, higher-profile post-rock releases so far (with the exception of Mogwai's Rave Tapes), this is easily the best post-rock album I've heard all year so far. Favorite tracks so far are definitely Emergent and The Stars Are Stigmata, both of which are total onslaughts, with the former sounding Russian Circles-esque at times.
