He has no real build up in the games unless you actually took the time to read the books and who actually does that. Nevertheless, characters keep yelling "KAI LENG, OH GOD WE'RE SCREWED," like it means something. The email in question is after he shows up, fucks with the party and screws up their mission, and basically gives you the finger via email. It's really loving dumb.
