That is amazing but I wonder if it wouldn't have been easier to make a tube frame chassis and drop the shell on top? Still some amazing fabrication.

Speaking of awesome AI poo poo, some of you know that my brother murdered my grandfather's poor 1955 Cessna 170. Well insurance totalled it out so my grandfather is throwing money around to the grand kids. He has offered to help with my car fund. What would the best use of this money be? Of course that would be giving my 58 to someone professional to do a body off resto :)

The correct answer for any ACVW fan is one restored to factory condition, and a second that belches fire and lays down rubber for miles.

Mine has entirely too much rot that has to be repaired and was crashed in the early 60s, so it's going to be the 2nd option. My first car was a 67 that was bone stock and meh, been there done that.

The metal fabrication work in that car is amazing. Especially when they managed to get the motor mounted in it without extending the engine bay. The engineering skills of those dudes is mind blowing

Once I watched a few more all episodes I figured out why he went sheet metal fab instead of tube frame. Looks more factory, the guy is a sheet metal magician and it might be cheaper from a material standpoint. Episode 2? where they show how to make the reverse suspension mount jig thingy was cool to see. I always figured you could do something similar but had never seen it done. Kind of want to grab a E30 shell (we have several laying around) and make a jig then build a tube frame based on that.

Here's a tube frame drift truck because pictures are good...

Unless it turns by spinning the rear wheels, which might be awesome assuming the driver is good at it.

This needs some sort of cover over the front wheels for when it is at normal ride height. Kind of like how airplanes hide their gear but like in reverse.

The only thing I can hate about that picture is the stance works watermark. That "truck" is mental and I love it.

Granted I do want to buy a ranger/s10 with a v8 and airbags, so that might tarnish my point of view.

Sort of like the front fender scoops on the Plymouth Superbird/Dodge charger Daytona?

(Ostensibly, they covered holes cut in the tops of the fenders to allow the tires to poke through when the suspension squatted under the massive cornering/downforce loads on the race version. Or maybe they were just to look cool or vent the brakes, nobody knows for sure.)

I like the truck, though. If you're going to do a stupid thing, might as well take it all the way to self-parody.

I was under the impression it was due to pockets of high pressure air forming in the wheel wells and causing lift at higher speeds.

I had a thought the other day: full sports-car build V8 S10 with a Corvette rear subframe wedged in... but with an additional mounting point to install auxiliary coil springs for towing what the frame is rated for without screwing up the ride height.

Maybe I'm overthinging it, but I've seen many airbags fail to the point I have kind of an aversion to them on anything that's not show-only.

If this is the same guy from the build-a-truck show I'm thinking of, just about every truck he built went from the studio to the crusher for insurance and liability reasons. :smith:
