Then I got 4 on sale. I haven't played it at all yet, and now every time I think about playing it, I think, "5 will go on sale eventually, why waste my time with old and busted?"

Welcome to tax law. More details here.

Technically any amount of money is taxable unless your gross income's under minimum taxable income (which is jurisdiction-dependent and a question for your tax attorney) - they just don't actually notify anyone until you cross US$20,000 - and they probably already have far better ways of convincingly posing as you than having your Social Security number on their clearinghouse's files would give them.

Yes, essentially. I would recommend just cheating by opening up a tab for this page and CTRL+F'ing the item you found (the ones with a blue wrench symbol) to see what you can pick up and combine. You don't get as many points if you don't have the actual combo card, but it's still better than hitting things and getting minimal PP for it (XP, basically, so you can level up and get more combo cards, health, and stats).

If you don't like the time limit on the story mode, I would recommend just playing sandbox mode in OTR. You might have to be super careful at the start because if you die, your only option is the go back to a save or restart (but you keep your levels at least). I loving hate the time limit in DR2:OTR in the story so I usually just play it in sandbox and kill zombies for shits and giggles.

But if you just came out of the safehouse in story mode (or find it in the map), go to the sports store just around the corner, pick up some boxing gloves, finds some knives (usually zombies are just carrying some around and they're relatively common items, in OTR basically any 'knife' will do) and go make some knife gloves (wolverine gloves basically) and loving chew poo poo up like a champ. Also, I wouldn't discount the nail bat, since uncomboed weapons rarely will one-hit kill zombies, and the bat has a nice wide arc to it. As you find more maintenance rooms, also try to combine some of the items lying inside or nearby the door, because they are intentionally placed there for combo weapons.

Also decent and simple combo weapons are the polearm (machete + broom handle, there are a few maintenance rooms with that) and the lightsaber (flashlight + gems) because they all have cool sweeping hits and awesome aoe sweeps if you have the combo card (the former you get from leveling early, the latter you can just find).

But above all, yeah, you don't get cool stuff until you level. You get some cool moves from leveling (they don't need weapons) and more health, carry slots and movement speed above all else. Just make combo weapons and kill zombies and smash slot machines/ATMs for money and level up faster and basically just ... it picks up after a few levels, trust me. I had the same problem with the game being clumsy and slow as gently caress until a few levels in. I still loving hate the story mode. I go back to it after getting like 5+ levels in sandbox mode. Plus in sandbox the whole map is open to you whereas they lock you off in the story in certain spots.

Thanks, that helps a bunch! I'll keep seeing what stuff I can collect & combine. In the story mode for 2, I've only had to find Zombrex once...is it going to be a hassle to find more?

drat, after playing a quite few hours of Saints Row 4... I don't think that I can even bring myself to finish it.
It's just samey as hell, I'm tired of the world being so loving dark, I'm tired of the fact that I'm in the same drat city as The Third, I'm tired of fighting the same 3 enemies over and over, I'm tired of hacking things, I'm tired of racing across the city, I'm tired of throwing things at targets, and ugh... it's just too much of the same poo poo repeated over and over.

Also getting rid of cribs, boats, and severely gimping the game's air force was a mistake.
It also takes far too long for you to get the rest of your crew back so you're stuck with Keith David and Kenzi for the longest time.(not nearly as amazing as it sounds)
They've also managed to make the super powers not nearly as fun as they should be.

I can't be the only one that thinks this.

On the same wiki just check the Zombrex page for locations. They are a bit different for DR2 and OTR, but I believe if you have the cash you can buy them at the stores. Just smash slot machines and poo poo and then reload the area. Or just play Sandbox mode in OTR which has no time pressures.

As in, 4-5 players? Or you mean 4-5 singular soldiers?

4-5 players can have LOADS of fun in a Total War game. But units will number between the dozens and the hundreds according to your settings.

I'd recommend Shogun 2 if you want the tightest mechanics, or Rome 2 if you prefer that time period and are willing to sacrifice gameplay for other stuff. The other ones are kinda older and lacking some quality of life improvements, but still fun.

From what i've found total war is based around giant huge army battles, but with a level of micromanagement required for smaller scale RTSs like starcraft.

I tried to get into Rome Total War but found myself completely overwhelmed with what needed to be done. Army positioning, which way they were facing, how to sack cities, keeping an eye on stamina, when to use which type of unit, etc.

Is there a better game to jump into the series with? It's so popular and i get the appeal of the Risk type of game that it is, but it just feels like i'm missing something to hook me.

They even take the piss out of other games that do this, so you'd think they would have some idea of good mission design. But no, they just throw boring crap at you just like the games they're mocking.

And it never improves. The ending of the game was pure garbage and doesn't come near SR3. So disappointed.

They all revolve around all those points you just mentioned, as well as a couple others like unit counters, general abilities and area of influence, and a dangerous game of knife-edge politics on the overworld map. Playing at lower difficulties means you can just bring better/more units that the computer and win most fights, but it's still not guaranteed.

That said if you played Rome 1, Shogun 2 and Rome 2 are much better games in terms of information control and game control.

This is absolutely not the case. Very little starcraft style micromanagement is required. You aren't controlling individual soldiers, managing health values, managing base building while in combat, scouting, and so on. APM means almost nothing. It's all about large scale tactics. You can pause whenever, too. I think there's a miscommunication here, because the TW series doesn't have much micromanagement at all. If the game feels overwhelming, just take it more slowly. You're probably overthinking things and aren't using the pause button.

I would say that Shogun 2 is probably the easiest to get into.

There are a couple mods that fix its issues, but the only appeal is the giant campaign map as far as I know. Napoleon is kind of the same period, and it's a tighter experience.

Likely the hardest Total War to get into I think, they just introduced a bunch of new systems and none of it was really implemented extraordinarily well.
It's refined a lot in Napoleon, but if you really want to play Empire then I'd suggest getting Darth Mod for it since it fixes just about everything wrong I had with it save for the clumsy UI and some of the campaign map quirks.

Does it still have the bug where the AI will never do cross-ocean invasions? Because that made being American or Indian absurdly overpowered by comparison.

Also really the only supremely interesting thing about Empire was the ship combat, which is refined in Shogun but also broken since ships will explode/sink much quicker than in Empire.
