doesn't explain why they need to reinstall drivers

it's because windows treats USB device security very seriously and it's re-installing the driver into a special sandbox area that sanitizes all USB input and output to help prevent malicious devices from taking control of your computer

i finally saw a winphone in the wild last night. dude let me play around with it for a bit and honestly it didn't seem so bad. if they actually put the effort/discipline into maintaining the line it could have probably taken on the iphone

the first touchscreen interface for windows phone came out three years after iphone and two years after android, so they were late to the market

when they finally got out there, they threw all developers under the bus by making wp7 incompatible with all prior versions. then they did it again by making wp8 incompatible with wp7

windows phone has poo poo market share because it has been heinously mis-managed as a product and no sane person would write software for a platform that has no users and a history of being hosed over

aha there was a thing on that Microsoft blog about this, something about how not all USB devices have serial numbers so windows can't uniquely identify the same device plugged into a different port. your device is stupid and doesn't have a serial number.

ahh this explains why i have to go through the process of manually picking drivers for my knockoff wireless xbox controller adapter every time i unplug it.

it also said that quite often all devices from a manufacturer have the same serial number and fun things happen in windows 95 when two USB devices have the same serial number

"Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids -- no, I really mean it." Biden said.
