Well the dumbest thing is that STO's endgame revolved around being able to collect sidegrades. It was relatively easy to grab a new rep set, or a bunch of lockbox weapons, or whatever and throw it all on your ship and mess around. But now they're all two gear tiers below the current level, and you'll need to spend tens or hundreds of thousands of additional dilithium to get them up to spec. And who's going to do that for what's basically toys? Anyone sane is going to upgrade their best/favorite gear and stay with that... and now most of the endgame suddenly loses its point. And that's not even getting into the cost of raising alt gear...

GoatSeeGuy posted:

Yeah, my plan is to have a cruiser set of gear, an escort set, then gently caress it. My alts can stay useless contra mules...until that's nerfed as well.
Yeah. I went with Disruptors since I have spiral waves and crescent cannons... but even that little choice cuts off a lot of options. Not using plasma means science-heavy ships are far less effective, for example.

* A small number of players were using an exploit that allowed them to abuse a Duty Officer mission which allowed them to turn in Contraband in exchange for dilithium by using multiple characters on an account to turn in Contraband. This mission has now been replaced by a new Duty Officer mission that rewards a marks package containing 10 marks of the player's choice.

Yeah, I have to seriously question some of the thread bitching - what investment did you have in this game besides griefing and explosions? Because despite the changes there is still an abundance of the latter and opportunities for the former are on the rise as some of the more notorious players come back to check DR out.

In non-bitching I upgraded my ar'kif and finally started flying it after buying it right before I lapsed at the end of summer and it is pretty fun. I've been flying a scimitar for so long it's nice to do something other than make left turns.

I also hit 60 and tried out bug hunt on advanced. It was pretty easy with the counter command ground set. It seemed pretty straight forward. Is it much harder in elite?

Bug Hunt Elite is pretty easy and doesn't take all that long to run, it's pretty much the new ISE.

ISE used to be difficult with pugs, I assume they'll catch on eventually. It's not like there's any confusing objectives. They can't accidently quarantine the wrong bug or something like that.

I finally got to run ISA with a goon group last night. 5 goons, 3 with DPS over 20k, and it still took 10 minutes to finish. No real danger, we didn't even have to do the stupid 10% trick to pass the no-longer-optional optional. It's just a very long slog for lowered rewards.

Old Elite Borg STFS were 60+15 marks, now 50+25 for Advanced. Dil went from 960 to 480? I'm not 100% sure on the dil, queues were never my source of it.

In old STFs, regular rewarded 480 dil, elite awarded 960. Old elite turned into new advanced, and now dil rewards are 240 for regular, 480 for advanced, and 960 for elite. Old STFs also used to reward random items, now they don't (this is a fairly minor nerf, most items dropped were vendor trash).

Cryptic seems to be on an anti-fun trip this morning. That hierarchy boff who could actually change his uniform? That was a bug. Dancing spheres and borg gates? Another bug. And I hope you didn't have a lot of earned specialization points, because those are randomly disappearing from some people.

Well, let's be honest this was clearly unintended. A whole bunch of costumes were broken outright since the race lacked the right torso model/textures, you couldn't reselect his original costume once you changed it, and pretty much all the head options were obviously not supposed to be used.

That said, the ideal scenario would be fixing the bugs and making him properly customizeable. The Cryptic one will be to just lock him down like the other quest reward boffs.

Does one get refined dilithium or ore? Also, as a new-ish player, does it make sense for me to hold on to my marks and keep farming dil through contraband mulching, the Pi-Canis run and the Academy pop quiz?

With the changes, they don't make me happy, but being relatively new to STO, I'm still having a fair amount of fun. I'll have to say the increased difficulty and grind has substantially lowered any motivation to level alts. One of the things that impressed me about STO when I first started playing, was the ability to max level in a few weeks and then have fun sidegrading or leveling alts.

I enjoyed playing SW:TOR for a couple of months and the story was pretty fun, but the sheer grind made the game be a pain in the rear end.

You're gonna get +50% of raw ore from everything but certain event rewards, and double the ore from mining. So farm up now and you'll have more days where you can just log in, refine, and do nothing else.

Not deleveled, but I did see them take away 7 of my specialization points. I didn't even really take advantage of the japori mission either. I was pretty much doing solo argala. From the looks of it I'm far from being the only one.

Now that I think about it though, pwe appears to have the same idea when you consider the upgrade system they had ryptic put in place.
