I mean, yes, that's where Breaking Benjamin came from, but like all the local bands I had recordings of played to me and the newer bands they listened to (aside from the one my brother joined, which was described as "weird", probably because it's got a keyboard in it) were in that whole BB/Chevelle/Staind/Shinedown/Disturbed/Godsmack vein. I saw Godsmack live in Birmingham years and years ago. They were terrible and a fat 40-something woman threw up near me then glomped me and screaming "BLESSED BE" in my ear with her puke-breath. Also she whipped her tit out at me later in the evening. It was not appealing. This "chuck poo poo I've got lying around together" guitar is looking surprisingly ok; (apologies for the poo poo picture, the light in this house is terrible and I'm too cheap to buy a decent camera) Everything on that body is pure 'B' stock. Huge scratch on the control plate, the bridge has rust-spots on it, the jack plug came off a horrible cheap guitar that was beyond saving and the pickups were piss-cheap on ebay because the Chinese seller listed them as "libstick pickups". Still going to stick ToneZ on the headstock though.

I've been looking for a decent 7 string to add to my hated collection, but might end up getting this monstrosity because its so cheap at a place nearby: While Ibanez is totally awesome, if you're after a cheapie 7 or 8 it's worth checking out the rondo music store as they have a ridiculous number of options and scale lengths available for 7, 8, 9 and 10 strings. The build quality is pretty decent - I have an Agile Septor 727 and after I got a pro setup job it plays very nicely and is among the best sounding of my guitars. Ignore the grandad hate.

I've mentioned this before, and while I don't really care for the most part, sometimes the 'genredad' stuff gets me, probably because I feel so on the spot with it, because I definitely fall into most of the categories, older (nearing 40) guy playing metal/rock (gently caress blues) pretending I'm a rock star or something on the weekends, I dunno. In all seriousness, when you younger guys are going to see a show, is it weird for you if someone my age is onstage? I've never really paid attention to it (unless it's a gimmick like the baby metal thing or whatever), but I'm curious. edit: vvvv - ohhhh, well poo poo I'm old and dumb and these inter tubes are confusing as hell get off my drat lawn I've got some djent to make iostream.h fucked around with this message at 01:33 on Nov 6, 2014 |

Dude, iostream, you're actually a working loving musician. That's something that half the people in these threads (including scrublords like me) can only dream about. thingdads are dudes who buy hella gear and only sit around in their office when they're not doing lawyer/doctor/whatever poo poo and play blues licks on $12k of studio-grade equipment. If you're gigging you're automatically exempt from bluesdad status. Also older people that still rock out own incredibly, so keep on keepin' on.

Although, I do take issue with the bit about you guys only dreaming about it. I've hit up several folks from over in ML about this and there's a couple that, as a result are apparently gigging fairly regularly (or preparing to). Even had a long chat with a younger guy at the music shop earlier today about it, if you want to go gig, there's no reason not to, it's easy as gently caress and doesn't take a lot of (or 'special') gear or anything. I've been working on a 'So You Want to Sell Liquor for Bars' thread for a while now and just haven't posted it because I don't know if it's pretentious or something. But seriously, go forth, make music.

When I was assembling the cables for my expression pedals and external switches for my MIDI controller it took FOREVER to find the properly maintained McIntosh receivers that I required to strip the quality wiring from. The heathens over at TGP said it wouldn't matter, that it was a 'digital' signal and just needed to pass simple, non-audio information, but I know. I KNOW...

Went to fix coil rub in my old australian 2x12, pulled out the working speaker for comparison and in the process a huge chunk of the speaker cone tore out. Pretty pissed at myself right now, patching it up with tissue paper and mod podge but I'm going to need to get a recone (they supposedly have alnico magnets and sound really really nice so if it's not more expensive than replacing them I'd rather do that).
