Off course that applies to Canadian wilderness too. But can an American just move to Canada? edit: I'm also eligible for citizenship in an E.U. country, I need to take advantage of that.

And it'll be pretty cheap. Plus Old Toyota's in the driveway/yard/garage.... I'm not kidding either, the rent money would be a huge help. Raluek posted:Christ. I never understand how people can act this way towards their family. They're family. Stabbing them all in the back for a few bucks is just so terrible. I'm sorry, dude. Rhyno posted:gently caress. That reminds me of when my Grandmother died..... I'm sorry Adiabatic. At least you still have your parents. My personal experience is that when it comes to money, family ties don't matter as much as one would think they should. I don't even talk to my mother (aka the ex-wife), because of what she did (mostly being selfish) after my Dad passed away last year. Bitch took all the life insurance, and tried to take the big 401k. They had been divorced for over 10 years at this point, but he never updated his beneficiary forms. (UPDATE THEM YEARLY--SERIOUSLY, YOU MAY ACCIDENTLY GIVE MONEY TO SOMEONE YOU DIDN'T WANT TO INSTEAD OF PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT) She then moved to Nashville Tennessee about a week after he died. She only gave us very little of the life insurance money, and the only way she signed over the 401k is when we threatened to sue, because of the divorce decree, the life insurance was supposed to go to us--she knew this and wouldn't hand over a copy of the divorce decree because it was specifically spelled out that whomever got the life insurance money was supposed to turn it over to the kids (us). Instead of doing what was legally required, she takes the divorce decree and immediately retains an attorney, then lies to me saying she can't find it.... When I finally realized what she had done (one of her friends told me) I confronted her and she told me to and I quote "you can just go get a copy from the courthouse, it is public record after all" I was able to basically strong arm her into signing over the 401k because apparently her attorney couldn't find any loopholes. I did have to sign over the estate's interest in a house that was nearly paid off in Illinois. Since then I don't really talk to her, because she tries to justify it with stupid excuses from when I was a kid. In order to make ends meet (because I've inherited the bills of someone who made double what I do) I've had to take periodic withdrawals from the inherited retirement accounts, and take on the huge tax burden that comes with it. Oh I almost forgot one of the first things she said to my grandparents when they arrived, "I can pay for the cremation, and the estate can pay be back later". That is super hosed up to say to people in their late 80's, who are here to bury their son. Worst part is, they have been nothing but kind to her even after the divorce. To make it short: My Father's Ex-Wife (my real mother) tried to steal about a quarter million dollars from my brother and myself, then rolled out to Nashville, while leaving me with all the bills, and to try to deal with the grief after my Dad passed away. Since then I haven't really talked to her. Every couple of months (usually around my birthday, Thanksgiving/Christmas) I get a voice-mail message... I sometimes call her back but I'm very short and polite now. I just have no desire to be hurt by someone who is supposed to care about me. And I don't think I ever want to get married/have a SO and or have kids because there is a remote possibility that I could do something like this because I'm related, and grew up around this poo poo. Also both my parents are/were hoarders, so I have had to sort through literal mountains of poo poo in the houses. I think the last trip to the dump was somewhere in the range of 4200 lbs.... OFFICER 13 INCH posted:I've put honest, serious hours of thought into moving to Alaska over the course of my life and I'm starting to think that it might just be time to do that one of thse days. I don't think he's ever thrown away anything in his life. The basement of one of his houses flooded recently and he refuses to throw out anything, despite everything being covered in a thick layer of mold. I'm sort of pleased to be estranged from my father because I have no desire to deal with his estate after he dies, between his hoarding tendencies and his horrible wife. I imagine that if my dad leaves me anything, there's going to be a lengthy court battle involved because his wife won't want to give up anything.
