Anyone here use one of those Cisco Merakis, that you get for free for watching the webinar, as a home wifi? Can you put something like dd-wrt on it so you don't have to pay their subscription thing?

I think my wifi (cheap netgear) is flaking out and I have one of those Meraki that is just sitting in a box. I never set it up because of the 3 year subscription thing.

You put the meraki up on amazon and you sell it. They aren't good for anything else. Can you flash DD-wrt? Of course, if desired. Or flip it for a good home router.

Also, :yotj: update - a job that exactly fit my skillset and desires that I posted about went with someone else because I apparently (unintentionally) called out a number of bad decisions made by the VP during the interview that violated basic network administration best practices, and so even though I aced the interview process (including highest score on a CCNA/network+/a+ group of tests), they refused to hire me. I found out from other people I knew who worked there.

So much for that!

If the VP can't admit he likely knows dick all about networking then you probably don't want to be there.

That is almost verbatim what the friend who works there told me. I'd agree. Sad, waking to a workplace so close I don't even need public transportation plus a huge salary bump would have been a dream considering that I have a two month old.

Not sure? Asking for SLAs with vendors, expecting to create an inventory and documentation expectations? Conducting site surveys to figure out their wifi issues? Expecting to interact with vendors and establish end to end monitoring with a non shoestring budget? They dislike their existing vendors but don't even know their sla, so it was kinda hard to say the vendor is the problem when I don't know what they agreed on.I did point that out. That's all I remember.

You know, groundbreaking demands that rock the boat. Some part was something their VP(non technical) hosed up.

Clearly you mean "sleep" since waking up from hibernation means loading several gigs of memory data from a lovely consumer-grade 5400RPM spinning disk, which could only be considered "fast" if you're talking in terms of a geologic time scale. :colbert:

So, Snowvember. Some of you may have heard about it in the news. It was a lake effect storm that blew upwards of 9 feet of snow over the course of 3 days over pretty much all of the southern 2/3rds of the city, down all the way towards Pennsylvania. Then just a couple days later, it warmed up to roughly t-shirt wearing weather and we got 6 inches of rain. The first picture in that link I posted shows a literal wall of snow falling, but a somewhat better picture can be found here.

I used to like the snow, once, a long time ago. Then I stopped sledding in it and started shoveling it and now all I want to do is move to, say, Arizona, or the warmer parts of Colorado. gently caress snow. gently caress it hard.
