Tools are the only way spectrals can affect non-spectral elements using powers. The ink produced by Ed's paintbrush is a spectral thing (not being the actual possessed paintbrush), and thus can't be seen, but as a tool product can touch and push around non-spectral stuff - see him using it as a washing line in his room.

That's actually interesting, because it looks like most spirits can't affect physical things with their powers (or at least the town doesn't have as many weird things happening as it should if they can), so a spectral actually provides something unique to the merger instead of being either a parasite or a parasite's host.

Yes but I imagine wearing more than a couple items at a time would cause you be be spiritually bled dry awful quick.

But what about that time Ed and Isabel were doing some kind of ink and paper nonsense that Starchman saw and they had to claim it was CGI? Doesn't that mean that tool effects are visible, the same way Isaac's weather medium powers were visible to Johnny? So that would suggest Day can cupid regular people too?

Isaac's powers create actual electricity or something I think, and Isabel controlled actual paper, as part of the tool itself, so those are both visible to normal people. Ed's ink is established as invisible to normal people, with the "Paranatural Activity Club" sign back from the beginning, meanwhile. Starchman may have seen Isabel's paper, but unless he's a spectral he didn't see the paint.

We've got gay Bobby Drake in mainstream comics, I think it's getting to the point now where if someone seems gay in media they probably just are. Especially in indie works like Paranatural.

What's depressing is that the attempt throws into stark relief just how incapable he is at anything that's not two people with catchphrase t-shirts standing across from each other and emptily spouting whatever his fanbase wants to hear. It doesn't help that the style is completely identical. Even if you wanted to really, genuinely, give it a chance, having exactly the same lifeless, samey, safe art makes that very difficult.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to be critical of him for trying something new. I was hopeful he'd grow from it since I have a soft spot for QC. I just feel like it really showcases how stuck he is in his art style and technical skill level.

Cody strikes me as an inverse Isaac--he seems equally anime, capable, but his personality is vastly improved as well. I wonder if this is significant--maybe Isaac is an anime red herring, and will be killed off early to make room for the new true anime, who is of course a proper pretty boy.

EDIT: Cody is the Ryu to Isaac's...uh...Dan.

Hell, let's see if we can get as many analogues as possible.

Max = Yoh, doesn't really give a poo poo compared to everyone else
PJ = Morty, weakling who wants to be a hero like Max/Yoh
Johnny = Ryu, rear end in a top hat bully who is amazing and awesome
Isaac = Lyserg, ridiculously anime, overly vindictive
Isabel = Horohoro/Trey/Whatever, likes to fight, generally chill
Ed = Joco, tries to be random and make everyone laugh
Doorman = Marco, takes Isaac/Lyserg under his wing, etc.
Whatever keeps possessing Max = Hao, has creepy dual relationship with protagonist
????? = Tao Ren, which is distressing since Ren is my favorite character, to be introduced later????
Spender = Silva, supposed to be a mentor, kinda sucks at it a little bit
Consortium = Patch Tribe

Checks out, for the most part.

Speaking of Agent Day, would her cane's power work on non-Spectrals, or is it limited to other supernatural beings? I think tool powers actually affect the real world, like Max's magnet powers pulling pots and pans, but Ed could also apparently make his ink only visible to Spectrals on the Activity Club's sign and certain Spectral powers and beings like most ghosts and the spec-shot don't affect regular people.

I assumed Ed chose to make his ink on the club door invisible to normals.
