But you should melee people when you spycheck them because the blood makes it easier to track and kill spies who cloak, and easier to spycheck in the first place.

You shouldn't be getting up close and personal with pyros as engie anyways. I can't think of a situation where I care about 20% more fire damage on engie where I wouldn't already be boned that isn't super niche

Yes you could run up to him, whack him and follow the blood trail and hit him again one or two more times, or you could just skip all that and shoot him twice with your shotgun before he cloaks.

And yeah it's niche and probably won't matter, but why have the vulnerability if you won't use it? It's like wearing the pain train on a ctf map.

Also being in melee reach of a spy is generally not the best plan in the world, thanks to latency and generous backstab detection.

A cool fact about melee weapons is the way they work, they put a hitbox cube in front of you to determine if something is in range to hit, but that hitbox cube is always aligned with the grid of the map, regardless of where you are on that map. This is why you can be just a little further away than facet-to-facet distance of that cube from someone and miss, or you can be positioned corner-to-corner distance and register a hit when you visually should have been too far away. Melee weapons are magical, and you should always go big on a melee hit.

The main reason the southern hospitality is nice is because engies spend a lot of their time beating their buildings with a wrench. If someone gets close, it's real easy to turn, check them with your wrench, and then go back to smacking your buildings around. If they are a spy, now they are bleeding, and easy to see. Now is when you pull out the shotgun to kill them with - the southern hospitality's benefit is easier detection while you're already working, not to be your main weapon if you detect a spy.

If you guys are curious for the full details, I'd suggest you tune in for Fully Charged this Friday at 8 EST. All the people who were present at Valve, as well as oPlaid (former TF2 guy, current games journalist), will be there to address questions and whatnot.

KnD is just so ridiculous. Top to bottom, they're so solid at every single class - the only time anyone even comes close is when a pick class goes insane against them, but that's never really sustainable. Their medic's getting consistent saw hits, their pyro gets flame/flare combos to finish medics, their scout is using the soda popper, on and on and on - every one of their players does the crazy little bit extra. Who could you even put together to beat them right now?

I don't have them - I wasn't one of the people who was at Valve. I'm just hosting the show. Some details have been released in the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UelPvdGskv4

Other than that, most of the finer details are being revealed Friday. I want more info but they're not giving it to me. Sorry.

I might be in the minority here but honestly after this comp patch I wouldn't mind them skipping another "big content" patch to just focus on fixing the astronomical amount of visual problems in this game (making the grenade launcher four-barelled, fixing basically every single reload animation in the game, adding LODs to hats and items that still need them, fixing textures, etc.) I don't think a lot of people care but it genuinely kinda bums me out that they just let SO much broken crap pile up :smith:

I wouldn't mind a "polish patch" of some kind either, since the visuals bug out a lot nowadays. And if the game is officially gonna support competitive, that kind of stuff should really be fixed.

personally I'd rather they just make the GL have 6 shots again(but speaking of changes needed on a visual level, they need to swap out the Cola out for Bonk on the Soda Popper, it'd make a lot more sense with how that gun works these days)

I like to think there's a checklist the TF2 guys must check their work against when planning a major patch. At the top of this list is 1. Will it sell hats???

e: I mean hats are cool and groovy but there are times when I think that maybe I would like certain weapons to be more useful or whatever they broke the last patch to be fixed soon rather than a new jacket for the Scout to be in the game.

Well then they're still not following their own checklist because I think making hats look the way they should to begin with would go a long way towards selling more of them.

Nobody cares about more fire damage on the Southern Hospitality. The real disadvantage is that the strange one doesn't count sentry kills, only your own.

Neither game needs them though? CS:GO takes place in very tight, confined maps with a handful of players as a general rule and...How the gently caress would you even decide when and why Dota 2 LODs kick in?

Technically DOTA does have some form of LOD, there's two seperate models for Heroes, one higher poly for the Loadout view and for Showcase view ingame, and the other lower poly one used for when you're actually playing the drat game instead of admiring your hats.

It would just be too much. If you were using the extra two as rollers, you could reliably control the enemy's movements using more aoe splash damage and easily follow up with direct hits. Two extra shots used just for direct hits would mean you could overwhelm any push (even with a medic) if you just hit most of your shots. Pyros would get the worst of it, since you could easily alternate the timing of rollers and direct hit attempts to negate the protection airblast is supposed to provide.

You're gonna have to try a little harder than THAT.
There's an article up on The Daily Dot about TF2 competitive matchmaking that features a bit more insight as to what the community members who met with Valve earlier this week learned and discussed with them.

Potential things of note:
  • Having a single matchmaking queue to start, ~12 player games, no class limits
  • Best-of-three round system, community members doubt this is going to work
  • Valve aren't worried about perfectly equal class representation but want all classes to have the potential to be played, like 6s but with a bit more variety
  • Weapon pick/ban system, with new/broken weapons banned by Valve until they get fixes
  • Changing up on the weapon drop system to allow players to be able to equip any weapon

No guarantee what's going to be implemented from that list but it's an interesting heads-up on how they're going about it all.

I can't wait. I do hope that along with a ~12 player game mode they have a standard 6v6 and highlander. And then a "random" default option so the community doesn't fracture as much.

I guess it means that instead of relying on weapon drops (or trading) there will be a reliable way to get any weapon.
