K. Waste posted:To be fair, the film doesn't have to achieve this juxtaposition, and actually makes a fairly good case that this is irrelevant. The spitting irony of its inclusion of Belle Knox is that there's plenty of evidence to substantiate her belief that porn is liberating, but Hot Girls Wanted manages to dispel the significance of her supposed mainstream acceptance by contrasting it with snide teenage women calling her out for whitewashing how much degrading, uncomfortable, unprofessional poo poo they seem to believe is universal to the experiences of up-and-coming porn stars. All they can say is that she has a great publicist, which is contrasted with Riley basically just sitting on his laptop and driving them to locations, acting as a kind of glorified pimp. There was some depth to this one. Not just "it's a sex slave trade mkay" story.

My wife and I watched the first 7 episodes of Halt and Catch Fire yesterday (don't judge it was raining, and we spent the previous day hiking in the Smokies). I had no real expectations, but I really enjoyed it. It might be the best thing AMC has done outside of Mad Men and Breaking Bad. Perfect timing with season 2 starting. forever whatever posted:I had been putting it off for a long time but I finally got around to watching the first couple of seasons of The Americans on Prime and although there's an element of campiness to it and a lot of implausible poo poo goes down, hey, it's an FX show and I'm able to suspend my disbelief. Found this espionage/family drama to be increasingly engaging as it went on. It taking place in the early eighties, I think that they did an excellent job across the board with the wardrobe and the soundtrack is awesome. The acting is pretty great across the board and Keri Russell (of Felicity fame lol) is sexy as hell for what it's worth. This is next of my list once I finish Halt and Catch Fire. Alfred P. Pseudonym posted:I miss good Homeland. Homeland is a show that just busted it's nut way too soon. Any mystery to Brody was over in season 1, and by the start of season 2 he was a freakin senator. Still I thought the last season of Homeland was it's best since season 1. I no longer have Showtime, but after the next season airs I will get Showtime for a month to watch the new season (and to catch up on the superior Masters of Sex).

I think it just premiered over the weekend, but has anyone dipped their toes into Sense8 on Netflix? Created by the Wachowski siblings and J. Michael Straczynski it looks like something along the lines of The Tomorrow People. Edit: Oops, I'm dumb. It premieres this Friday June 5th. I could swear I saw a full episode up already. Still, anyone hear anything about it?

It's about a group of unrelated people spread across the world who have access to each others minds and bodies; there were some cool ideas like a character being in multiple fights in different locations at the same time in the trailer I think. magnificent7 posted:SUCH a great documentary... capturing the exact moment that the girl in glasses decided "oh poo poo, no, I do not want to be doing this" (during the shoot with the old dude in the blue shirt), and then later the other girl's boyfriend (at a frat party or something?) suddenly thinking, "Ouch, I hadn't anticipated this side of dating a porn star" when his friends wanted to compare her to her films, while they're playing beer pong. The other porn documentary up on netflix is Kink, which takes the opposite attitude and shows the drudgery of making very specialized fetish porn. It's surprisingly feel-good, and seems to elide the question of what kind of life you'll have waiting for you if you spend your 20 operating remote-controlled dildos instead of working your way up some kind of corporate ladder, even though the company is basically a huge bland bureaucracy itself. The people they feature are awesome, though. The lady directing the gang-bang video seems like she could be the/an inspiration for Linda Belcher on Bob's Burgers.

I really liked the bit with the guy directing the gay brutality scene and there's just a closeup of the director's face and you can here all these thuds and slaps and cries of pain in the background and he's just staring at what's happening and growing increasingly exasperated.

Yeah Kink is pretty good, genuinely funny and does a lot to dispel the "magic" of the sex industry. I'll say it again though, Mr. Angel is by far the best porn documentary on streaming right now.
