zakharov posted:Goobergate people just don't realize how tedious and boring the Entire Rest Of The World finds this ongoing drama. And how useless it is. Looking at this year's E3 it seems most publishers and developers already realized how much (often thoughtlessly, not maliciously) of a white boy's club they've created and take active steps to change it. More women as heroes, more games where you can selecte a male or female hero, more games featuring people of colour, more women at the presentations etc. pp. Making the MRAs/GGers look even more like George Wallace standing at the UA door.

And how it never works? This is that. They felt cognitive dissonance, for ever so briefly a time, by telling women that no, actually, there is no harrassment and you don't feel threatened, and then they cleared that up by drawing a female cartoon mouthpiece that validates their world view. Is this secretly an Onion joke? This sounds too stupid to not be a parody.

I thought the bit about revenge porn had a lot more impact than the bit on general doxxing and threats. I guess I've smelled enough of the latter kind of poo poo to not be surprised by it. And I guess I'm not hugely surprised by revenge porn either, but it still broke my heart the way that segment unfolded with the woman matter of factly explaining that she felt like the only option she had was to end her life... and then a few minutes later showing that montage of news anchors, with increasingly strained attempts at straight faces, telling people in her situation it was basically their fault for letting those pictures exist in the first place... culminating with that one anchor considering the implications of that kind of thing going wrong... and laughing. It was loving gut-wrenching. richardfun posted:Jesus, some people in this thread are thick (or are just being willfully obtuse). "Police brutality against black people is an issue" "True, and I'm not racist, but I will point out that black men are disproportionately criminal." "The gently caress does that have to do with what I was saying?" "What are you getting upset about, I agree with you on the issue, I just had a burning desire to bring up racial criminal statistics. For some reason. Also, did you know police can be mean to white people too?" That woman apparently having legitimately bad opinions... I guess you could call it a loaded non-sequitur to be generous. It's a kind of hilarious lack of self awareness that leads to someone defending that loaded non-sequitur after it's been called out. But yeah, no, it's super important to bring up the fact that women aren't the only people who are harassed too. Fight the good fight there, guys.

Most people might not care for GG drama, but Oliver's aware of the fraction of his fans who are brogressive anti-"SJW" types. Honestly, I think it's just that they both had convenient interview clips with major news organizations that made their footage available to him.

A recent example of this in Massachusetts is when a guy was found not guilty of taking upskirt photos with his cell phone. The only reason that he got away? The law did not mention the certain crime as it was not possible when the law was written. The loop hole was closed, and this is another situation when laws need to be changed.
