Indoor Kids is somehow real bad despite Kumail being hilarious in everything else he does.

For me it has the same problem as The Dissolve's podcast, its too lackadaisical and too regimented at the same time. I love that podcasts get to decide how professional they want to be, it's what makes the medium interesting at the moment, but se shows screw up the balance. If you're going to cut the show into specific segments you can't also just hang around during those sections. The result is something that's neither a free-flowing conversation - like WOFF or CBB - nor all that educational. They spend seventy percent of their air time establishing and wrapping up segments and never get around to actually discussing things in anything but the most cursory, casual way. Harmontown lacks structure - obviously - but in letting itself run they sometimes stumble into special moments. Imagine is the show was edited down into five minute acts and Dan had to warm-up again for each one. It would be useless.

It happened. It finally happened. DEMORGE TOLD A SOMEWHAT FUNNY ANECDOTE ON THIS WEEK'S HARMONTOWN! Of course he undercut the humor by taking it deathly serious, but when you get blood from a stone you don't complain because its O negative.

The truth of the matter is that Demorge just doesn't know how to tell a funny story. The set up is great, but the punchline (sic) reads like a bad reddit post that would normally be followed by "and then everybody stood up and applauded."

Fishvilla posted:His first appearance was great. Now h he is Goldberging. I've heard him on Doug Loves Movies, too, I think. Once, though. He isn't overdoing it or anything, he's just still there and that's fine. If he's trying to get in like six or seven an episode, then yeah, shut the gently caress up with the YEAHs - they're YEAHs, by the way, or more like YEEUH. Somebody constantly going "YUP!" would be more annoying, because that's like someone in the audience is just heartily agreeing with everything they say. And he hasn't tried to take the stage or anything since his last appearance. Would probably love to, though. Admittedly, him getting mad at the guy seemed weird. Maybe it was glaringly obvious at the time that the guy was implying, "hey black man, want a basketball? You'll go for THAT, right?" I just didn't expect the guy on stage at the comedy show to follow up with confronting someone in public for what could have been at worst a dumb remark that was poorly thought out.

Demorge is good during Shadowrun and great when he's talking about a thing he's interested in, but he's not great at situations where Dan drunkenly drags him into stuff he's not geared up for. MY RANKING OF HARMONTOWN REGULARS like you asked Erin when she's firing on all cylinders and getting under Dan's skin Demorge when he's doing a thing Kumail, who always delivers a quality time Normal Jeff Normal Erin Normal Spencer Normal Demorge Extra-High Spencer, the Tryhard Random Idiots Drunk rear end in a top hat Jeff

Whenever Erin enters with a bit I can immediately hear her pitching it before the show. And how it sounds like it would be really funny in the hands of someone better.

Brocktoon posted:Rory Albanese is really unpleasant. I'm from Long Island, and he was the perfect reminder of why I moved away. It's a breeding ground for defensive assholes of all stripes. We're just lucky he didn't get more racist. Also, I was at the show, and by the end, Rory was just standing behind his chair, clearly desperate to maintain as the absinthe took complete control. I wouldn't be surprised if he just fell down or vomited right after the show. It was the first Harmontown that I've seen with Jeff, and he really is as handsome as they say. Also, his comptrolling really made the show; he's the perfect foil for Dan. Their dynamic as friends is what makes the show work for me.

I know they were black out drunk and all, but Dan and Jeff just completely ignoring Erin can't be fun for her. Multiple times she gets several words into a sentence and is just run over. If you're an Irish Joe you could argue that it's good to shut someone down if they're "not funny" but it's borderline mean.

I noticed that toward the end. They were very drunk, though, and she's probably sort of used to it. Rory was a mixed bag for me. I kinda felt like I was watching an old Comedy Central Presents and they brought on NY comic #518. He actually does a NY vs LA thing at some point, too.
