Well, I finally unlocked Isaac's D6 - accidentally, via the Ankh and a Homing Mom's Knife, both of which I got from one of those red rooms that randomises you. Guess the game really wanted me to have it. I also tried to use Pheromones on It Lives. It felt like that part in Old World Blues where you can hit on your own brain, but wronger. Update: Just a simple look at what the Daily Run leaderboards look likequote:as the weeks blow by, im faced with the issue of wanting to do fun posts.. but also not wanting to spoil much more so lauch will be a lot more exciting, so this week im just going to expand a bit on daily runs. quote:ive already completed this run (aka died) so i can no longer play the run for score, though i can still practice to see if i can do better with a bit more knowledge, ive also used this option as “what if i took this item instead” path to see how it may have effected the run. quote:todays run was a harsh one… mainly because its monday and just to make sure you hate mondays more.. monday is “hard mode” day!

Adding a post-attempt practice mode for daily runs is a good idea, too many games with daily runs give you one shot and then never let you play that seed again even if it was fun (Spelunky )

Got my first Chest win last night! Started as Maggie and got mom's knife on floor one, and a small rock from an exploding spider taking out a tinted rock. Found the one book that gives you soul hearts (Revelations?) and things just snow balled from there. Loving this game, and I know I probably won't get all the achievements before Afterbirth comes out, but I'm not all that worried. Having a blast working my way through at my own pace.

Wonder if the game's going to get some kind of protection against CheatEngine-type editing. Making a big deal out of the leaderboards is a bit pointless if nothing else changes

To be fair Nicalis didn't make SMB. Still, you can't really protect a game from memory editing. If I can run it, I can break it.

You can make it obfuscated to at least make it a complete pain in the rear end. One method is to sign your variables through encryption and multiple sanity checks which makes using a cheat engine a bit more a PITA but for most people that makes absolutely no sense, is greedy to processing power and a waste of effort. Either way it won't be addressed.

You can also include server-side checks, like calculating the max score per reached floor, or if the dropped items match the seed etc. also flyboi post gizmo

It's more of a starting point. But the long and short seems to be that some goon figured out Super Meat Boy game client directly interacted with a MySQL database, which is apparently not something you should do from a coding standpoint, as the Goon was able to pull the credentials out and show that was able to directly access said database. He pointed this out to a SMB dev who kinda just told him of and said it was fine. It was not fine because once word got out, other people hosed with the database and the SMB dev acted all butthurt about people on the internet being lovely despite the fact he was warned this exact thing could happen.

There should be an item that lets you unbreak the donation machine. So frustrating to have a ton of money to donate and then it breaks after the first cent.

Problem is with a penny a battery and blank card jera rune you could get the donation machine to 999 in one run with that

Honestly though I don't see the issue with putting a ton of money into the machine at once though. If someone is versed enough with the game to know how to get unlimited money then just let them do it. All you get out of it in the long run is a shop that doesn't suck rear end and a couple item unlocks. Frankly I find it annoying to have to fill up the machine again every time I get Isaac on a different system.

Honestly once you've unlocked everything the Donation Box can give you it becomes the Cash For Bombs machine. Restock it when you have spare money in Depths/Necropolis 2 and you can keep it around 100 without much difficulty or attention. Remember to blow up the shopkeeper when you bomb the box the first time each level for that extra 20% Devil/Angel Room chance.

Well after 41 hours of Lost runs, I finally have Godhead unlocked. Do I have to do unseeded runs for item pick ups to register on the item screen or can I just cheese my way to RPG? I'm missing like 11 item pick ups and then I'm done till Afterbirth.

Unless you need devil/god room items in which case do that anyway but reset after Basement 2.

I dunno, I find playing characters that aren't the lost to be fun because you can play the game normally but I didn't actually do all his unlocks I just tried for a while and downloaded a 100% save so your mileage may vary I suppose.

I really REALLY hate spiders. Last four runs I've been snagged by those fuckers leaping halfway across the room.

Not sure where you are skill wise but if you're looking for tips, spiders can generally be beaten by just staying mobile. The majority of them will home in on you but as long as you keep moving away from them they probably won't be able to catch up. Of course, if you get cornered you're probably going to take a hit so you also have to try and give yourself an escape route.

They totally can catch up to me, and it's a real pain trying to dodge multiple ones when they move so erratically. The little ones can be such a pain since there's often so many of them, but they do just as much damage as the others. It honestly feels like Edmund designed them as the sort of tiny, numerous enemy that deals chip damage, but then didn't actually put chip damage in the game. Sometimes I think the game should have quarter-heart damage.

Ah, yeah let me clarify. They'll jump (the distance depends on the spider type) faster than you can move. Except for your basic black spiders who will head towards you but you should be able to outrun. So ideally, if there's a group of spiders all aggroed on you, you should try to keep moving in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. That way when they jump they miss you on the left or right of where you were. It's hard to give advice that applies to all room layout/spider types but that's my general strategy. And yeah, they are definitely the most obnoxious early game enemies. Especially those loving bomb spiders.

My main beef is with the pink ones. They always seem to leap half way across the room and clock me. Skill wise I'd say I'm pretty good. Just the odd bastards who always catch me out. Just had an INSANE run with Eve. WHore of Babylon active (naturally) quad shot with scythes and eventually anti-grav tears. They were half the size of the room by the end. Bonkers.
