Please go after the religious vote Trump. And question: does the base care about gay marriage anymore? I was just thinking about how different the narrative seems to 2004. Nouvelle Vague fucked around with this message at 20:30 on Oct 28, 2015 |

I know a lot of Evangelicals don't consider Catholics and Quakers to be "real Christians". What's their take on Presbyterians?

"You know, this Carson guy -- I just found this out last night -- this Carson guy doesn't even believe in Christmas! Can you believe that? I mean, I love the guy, he's super smart, but that is just a complete joke. I didn't even believe it at first! What kind of Christian doesn't celebrate Christmas?" Trump could even work this into the debate tonight, somehow, and the media would scrutinize 7DA for the rest of the week. mdemone fucked around with this message at 20:35 on Oct 28, 2015 |

The X-man cometh posted:I know a lot of Evangelicals don't consider Catholics and Quakers to be "real Christians". What's their take on Presbyterians? They're Calvinist Protestants so I really doubt they'd be considered 'not real'. Most Southern Evangelical Churches are actually Arminianists rather than Calvinists, but the average evangelical is basically theologically illiterate so it doesn't really matter. The differences in actual practice are minimal, especially compared to Quakers and Catholics. Their ecclesiastical structure (so much as they even have one) is similar and they have the same biblical canon, unlike the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches, which recognize some extra books in the Old Testament)

Jewel Repetition posted:No I haven't read his books lol. But I've watched a couple speeches and seen him in debates. What's an example of something he said that you believe was taken out of context by pundits to make him look like an idiot? I thought of one thing, but only one thing, that Carson has been misrepresented for: his comments on a Muslim president. I literally heard someone arguing on the radio that he was wrong because the constitution guarantees a Muslim can be elected president. Which it does, but that wasn't the point Carson was making at all. He was just saying that voters should consider whether the values of someone's faith is compatible with the values of the elected office they're running for, which I generally agree with (even though Carson and I might disagree on the specifics). But a lot of the reasons people think he's an idiot are based purely on his actual positions. He's a neurosurgeon who denies climate change and evolution. He's a physician who wants to intensify the War on Drugs. The thing he said about homosexuality being a choice because people come out of prison gay was so stupid he had to apologize for it. Worst of all, and the reason I'm rooting for any other GOP candidate over him (except Ted Cruz) is his stance on tax rates. He wants both a flat tax and a luxury tax, the worst of both worlds, and his justification for the poverty-worsening flat tax is that it's like "tithing." That's the dumbest poo poo I've ever heard.

Good to see the "Rubio is a lazy flake" narrative travel across the pond: Billionaire donor to Rubio: Start working harder or I won't open my checkbook Above is a rehash of this article from the Politico: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/10/marco-rubio-2016-paul-singer-215225 Interesting take on Rubio's campaign: quote:“Rubio's team has prided themselves on this lean approach, and on their commitment to digital rather than boots on the ground. They are making a pretty gutsy bet that you don't need a presence anywhere except online. That may make your campaign more agile, sure, but I am not sure that equates to strength.”

Nouvelle Vague posted:Please go after the religious vote Trump. Attitudes among GOP voters are changing faster than most anybody expected. 60% of Iowa's likely primary voters identify as evangelical, so it's going to be an issue there moreso than other states. Those that are against marriage are very against it, and the candidates that are vocally anti-gay (Santorum, Cruz, Huckabee, Carson) aren't really being hurt by their anti-gay statements. http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-05-12/new-hampshire-poll-voters-strongly-favor-expanding-gay-marriage-rights And here's a Pew poll from over a year ago showing, yet again, that young republicans are going to gently caress up the GOP's poo poo once the boomers die off. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/03/10/61-of-young-republicans-favor-same-sex-marriage/

Slaughterhouse-Ive posted:Ben Carson will finally give Republicans the okay to say "friend of the family" again, but only if they're not one of the good ones It would be pretty impressive if he did the "there are blacks and then there are niggers" routine that Chris Rock disavowed for empowering racists on the debate stage. Can't really see how it could backfire. Except for the country as a whole, but not for his poll numbers.
