Powershift posted:I think the viper is it's own worst enemy. Unless you get one of the super racing track attack packages, the 2016 doesn't justify it's cost over a 2000. If you're just posing with it which let's face it, it's a viper so you are, a $30,000 car has the same visual effect as a $85,000 car.

Yeah, but 90% of the population react the same way to a 2016 viper as they do to a 2000 viper, and in terms of looking good and sounding good and starting more often than not, the 2000 viper is just as capable for 1/3-1/4 the price. The C5 looks like dogshit next to a C7, the diablo doesn't have the same striking appeal of the aventador, most people can't tell a 04 DB7 from a 98 jaguar, but it's hard to tell the phase 2 viper isn't a current model year car. It has just aged too drat well and isn't usable enough to wear out. At this point, with $30 grand in your pocket, you can go out and buy a V6 mustang, or a viper with 15,000 miles. That's a dangerous proposition. With $100 grand, you can buy a new viper or a tesla P85D or a GTR or a vantage GT or a 911 GTS or a cayman GT4 or a...... I'm not saying the viper is a bad car, but it's hard to make a case to buy it, which means it's hard to make a case to keep selling it. Anyways, here's some awesome ai car poo poo What a wonderful time to be alive.

It really is amazing how awesome the first gen viper still looks, it came out 23 years ago. It's closer in age to the 1970 charger than it is to the 2016 ACR.

Preoptopus posted:Ask Das Volk I bought Viper #1 in late September 2014, just after M3 #3 managed to put down the same time I'd seen for several years in a row at the VCHC. Viper #1: Pretty, but like some of the women I've dated, seriously deranged. It had several issues - the transmission's reverse gear hub broke, the clutch was not disengaging completely and appeared to have been incorrectly installed at the factory. The radio had been used as a stereo system for the dealership, and several speakers were blown in addition to a blown amp fuse. Sitting for almost a year didn't help it either. The new V10 has an achilles heel in some of the earlier cars where the #8 rod bearing location on the crank face has a machining defect, leading to very sad sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRmKst7LEtw While I have a well deserved reputation for being hard on cars, I do at least maintain them. Initially I had thought that a lapse in that contributed to my black car's demise, but it turns out that the issues it had were endemic and doomed to failure. My dealership has seen a few others come in for that same #8 rod bearing failure. And speaking of dealerships, there's one really good one in the bay area. Take your car elsewhere and tremendous risk follows. Every cloud has its silver lining though, and I lemon lawed the car to get my blue TA 2.0 replacement, which is a gigantic performance improvement over the base SRT. So far it's had no major issues, and I've had it on the track 6 or 7 times now. I'll be taking it to Laguna Seca for the last track day of the season via the Shelby club. I think the bottom line with Viper is that you are getting a tremendous bang for your buck. Dodge can do whatever crazy poo poo they want to make the Viper more profitable, more power to them. That's just two years off from being registere as a 'classic' car in Utah which only requires registration and inspection but no emissions checks. I still keep thinking about how my M3 is just 7 years away from that.

I know how much you all like volvos so I took a pic of this while I was picking up my ute. It's on bags and has heaps of custom stuff inside. It's in for a full wrap and then off for a cruise around Australia to gather sponsors. Dunno why. Have a drag bike with a turbo and NOS too it'll be..... Quite visible from what I saw of the wrap that's been done already
