The funny thing about this is you can buy a device called an Alphasmart Neo right now that does 99% of what this thing does (except it looks like an ugly green-gray brick instead of a 'cool' hipstery typewriter) for $30.

To be fair, the Hemmingwrite's e-ink screen looks like it might be easier on the eyes than that little 90's-era LCD display.

It also, of course, used a holder that would only fit the original ipad properly, And I don't think the original iPad got the update to use custom keyboards

seriously who is giving these scammers money? It's got nearly all the red flags. -impossible technology -on indiegogo because it can't meet kickstarter's minimal anti-scam checks -flexible funding because why not -ridiculously fast shipping date (Fall 2016 with no prototype) If it was a bunch of Russians pitching this it'd be scam bingo e: just noticed their "risks and challenges" is basically "we might not get enough money".
